The best CBD oil in the UK is one you can verify: broad spectrum or isolate with no detectable THC, a recent batch lab report from an independent lab, a clear strength in mg per bottle and per drop, a place on the FSA public list, and a fair price per mg of CBD.
This buyer’s guide gives you a 10-point checklist, shows how to compare strength and value, lists the red flags, and explains our own picks by need.
The 10-point checklist
| Check | What good looks like |
|---|---|
| 1. Type | Broad spectrum or isolate, with THC “not detected” |
| 2. Strength | mg of CBD per bottle and per drop shown clearly |
| 3. Lab report | Recent, independent, matches your batch number |
| 4. FSA public list | Product linked to an application on the list |
| 5. Carrier oil | MCT (coconut) or a named plant oil |
| 6. Extraction | CO₂ or food-grade ethanol |
| 7. Price per mg | Fair for the strength, not suspiciously cheap |
| 8. Claims | No promises to cure or treat conditions |
| 9. Reviews | Genuine, verified and recent |
| 10. Support | A real UK company you can contact, clear returns |
1. Choose the type: broad, full or isolate
Broad spectrum keeps other hemp cannabinoids and terpenes but removes the THC. Full spectrum includes THC, which is a controlled drug in the UK and can show up in drug tests. Isolate is pure CBD with no taste. Most UK buyers choose broad spectrum. Read full spectrum vs broad spectrum vs isolate.
2. Understand the strength
The big number on the bottle is the total CBD in the bottle, not per dose. A 1,000mg oil in a 10ml bottle is much stronger per drop than a 1,000mg oil in a 30ml bottle.
| Bottle | CBD per ml | Roughly per drop | Drops for 10mg |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10ml, 500mg (5%) | 50mg | 2.5mg | 4 |
| 10ml, 1,000mg (10%) | 100mg | 5mg | 2 |
| 10ml, 2,000mg (20%) | 200mg | 10mg | 1 |
| 30ml, 500mg | 17mg | 0.8mg | 12 |
| 30ml, 1,000mg | 33mg | 1.7mg | 6 |
| 30ml, 2,000mg | 67mg | 3.3mg | 3 |
Based on about 20 drops per ml; droppers vary. New to CBD? A 500mg or 1,000mg oil is a sensible start. See CBD oil strength explained and how to read a UK CBD label.
3. Check the lab report
A good brand tests every batch at an independent lab and will show you the certificate of analysis. Check the batch number matches your bottle, the CBD result is within about 10% of the label, THC reads “ND” (not detected), and contaminants such as heavy metals and pesticides pass. Our guide to reading CBD lab reports walks you through it step by step.
4. Check it’s on the FSA public list
CBD sold as a food supplement in England and Wales must be linked to a novel food application on the Food Standards Agency’s public list. You can search the list by brand or product name. It isn’t a quality guarantee, but a product that isn’t on it shouldn’t be on sale. Read is CBD legal in the UK? and the FSA’s CBD decision explained.
5. Read the ingredients
- Carrier oil: MCT oil (from coconut) is light, stable and widely used. See MCT vs hemp seed vs olive oil.
- “Hemp seed oil” is not CBD oil. Hemp seed oil contains little or no CBD. If the label says “hemp oil” with no mg of CBD, it’s probably a cooking or skincare oil. See hemp oil vs CBD oil.
- Added botanicals: some oils add ingredients such as ashwagandha, passionflower or turmeric. Check they suit you, especially if you’re pregnant or take medication.
- Extraction: CO₂ or food-grade ethanol extraction is standard for quality oils. See how CBD oil is made.
6. Work out the real price
Compare oils by price per mg of CBD, not price per bottle. Divide the price by the total mg of CBD.
| Example | Sum | Price per mg |
|---|---|---|
| £30 for 500mg | 30 ÷ 500 | 6p |
| £40 for 1,000mg | 40 ÷ 1,000 | 4p |
| £60 for 2,000mg | 60 ÷ 2,000 | 3p |
Illustrative figures, not our prices. Higher strengths usually cost less per mg. Be wary of oils that are far cheaper than everyone else: testing, quality hemp and FSA compliance all cost money. Read why CBD oil costs what it does. Subscriptions and bundles can also bring the cost down.
7. Read reviews with care
Reviews help, but they can be gamed. Since April 2025, fake reviews and hiding negative ones have been illegal in the UK under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act. Look for verified-buyer reviews on independent platforms, a realistic mix of ratings, and detail about how long someone used the product. Be cautious of “best CBD oil” lists that only link to one brand, or that don’t say they earn commission.
Red flags: CBD oils to avoid
- No lab report, or one that doesn’t match the batch
- Claims to cure, treat or prevent conditions such as anxiety, pain or insomnia, which CBD supplements can’t legally make
- “Legal up to 0.2% THC” claims: that figure relates to growing hemp, not products
- Full spectrum oils with no proof THC is within UK limits
- Huge strengths at very low prices
- “Hemp oil” with no CBD content listed
- No UK address, contact details or returns policy

How to start
Start low, around 10mg a day, hold drops under your tongue for about 60 seconds, and take it at the same time each day for two to four weeks before judging. The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication. See our CBD dosage guide and when to take CBD oil.

FAQs
What is the best CBD oil in the UK?
There’s no single best oil for everyone. The best is one you can verify: broad spectrum or isolate with THC not detected, a recent independent lab report, a clear strength, a place on the FSA public list and a fair price per mg.
How do I know if a CBD oil is good quality?
Check the batch lab report from an independent lab, the strength in mg per bottle, the THC result, contaminant tests and whether the product is on the FSA public list.
What strength CBD oil should I buy?
If you’re new to CBD, a 500mg or 1,000mg oil in a 10ml bottle is a sensible start. Higher strengths need fewer drops and are usually better value per mg.
Is full spectrum or broad spectrum CBD better?
There are no good trials comparing them. Full spectrum contains THC, which is controlled in the UK and can show up in drug tests, so most UK buyers choose broad spectrum.
Is cheap CBD oil worth it?
Sometimes, but compare price per mg and check the lab report. Very cheap oils are more likely to be under-strength, untested or not on the FSA public list.
Is the CBD oil on Amazon real?
Many “hemp oil” products on marketplaces contain little or no CBD. Look for the mg of CBD on the label, a batch lab report and a brand on the FSA public list.
Is CBD oil legal in the UK?
Yes, if it contains no more than 1mg of THC in the whole container and the product is on the FSA public list. All Evopure oils are broad spectrum with 0% THC.
