When we checked in October 2026, the strongest CBD oils widely sold in the UK were 40%: 4,000mg of CBD in a 10ml bottle, or roughly 17mg to 20mg per drop. A handful of oils on the FSA public list are labelled 50%. Stronger isn’t more effective. It just means fewer drops for the same amount of CBD.

What is the strongest CBD oil you can buy in the UK?
Some of the highest strengths on sale, from the brands’ own websites on 27 October 2026:

The biggest number on a bottle (25,000mg) isn’t the strongest oil: it’s a large bottle at 25%. The most concentrated oils from big UK brands were 40%. On the FSA’s public list, a few 10ml oils from smaller sellers are labelled 50% (5,000mg).

What “strongest” actually means: mg, % and mg per drop
Labels use three numbers, and only one tells you what’s in each drop:
- Total mg is all the CBD in the bottle. On its own it says nothing about strength.
- % CBD is the concentration. Total mg ÷ ml ÷ 10: 1,000mg in 10ml is 10%, and so is 3,000mg in 30ml.
- mg per drop is what you actually take. A dropper gives roughly 20 drops per ml, so total mg ÷ ml ÷ 20. For 1,000mg in 10ml: 1,000 ÷ 10 ÷ 20 = 5mg per drop.
So a 6,000mg 30ml oil and a 2,000mg 10ml oil are exactly as strong: both are 20%, about 10mg a drop. The bigger bottle just holds more drops.
Drop sizes vary. The FSA’s scientific committees put 10mg at about 4 to 5 drops of a 5% oil, which means 20 to 25 drops per ml. That’s why one brand lists its 40% oil at about 17mg a drop and our maths gives 20mg.

How to compare CBD oil strength between brands
- Divide by the ml. Compare mg per ml (or %), never the total mg on the front.
- Check it says CBD. “1,000mg hemp extract” isn’t 1,000mg of CBD.
- Look at the serving. Some brands suggest a full 1ml dropper: at 20% that’s about 200mg of CBD.
- Match the lab report. CBD close to the label, THC not detected.
- Check the spectrum. Broad, full spectrum and isolate oils differ at any strength.

The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication.
Is stronger CBD oil better?
No. A 40% oil isn’t four times as good as a 10% oil. What counts is the mg you take: two drops of a 10% oil give the same 10mg as one drop of a 20% oil. Stronger means fewer drops and usually a lower cost per mg, but it also makes it easy to take far more than you meant to.
The FSA advises healthy adults to have no more than 10mg of CBD a day, and its scientific committees name sleepiness and liver effects as the main concerns above that. One drop of a 40% oil is about twice the daily advice.

What is the strongest CBD oil for pain or sleep?
There isn’t one. Strength doesn’t make CBD a treatment for pain, sleep problems or anxiety, and no CBD food supplement is licensed to treat any condition. A higher percentage only changes how many drops you take.
Epidyolex, the CBD medicine specialists can prescribe for two rare forms of epilepsy, contains 100mg of CBD per ml, the same as a 10% oil. Trials and a licence make it a medicine, not a high percentage. See prescription CBD vs over-the-counter CBD.

THC, the 1mg rule and broad vs full spectrum
Pure CBD isn’t a controlled drug in the UK, but THC is. The Home Office says a CBD product with controlled cannabinoids is only exempt if, among other conditions, the whole container (such as a bottle of oil) holds no more than 1mg of them. The FSA also sets a safe upper limit of 70 micrograms of THC a day.

Check the lab report: does the strength match the label?
A label is only a claim until a lab confirms it. When researchers tested 29 widely available UK CBD products, only 11 were within 10% of the labelled CBD content, and 55% had measurable THC or CBN.
Ask for the certificate of analysis (COA) for your batch and check:
- the CBD result (in mg per ml or %) is close to the label
- THC is “not detected” or below the limit of quantification
- the batch number and date match your bottle
- the lab is independent and ISO 17025 accredited

Who should check before trying a strong CBD oil
- Medication: CBD can interact with some medicines. Check with your GP or pharmacist first.
- Liver conditions: speak to your GP before trying CBD.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: We don’t recommend our products during pregnancy or breastfeeding. The FSA also advises against CBD if you’re trying to conceive.
- Under 18s: all Evopure products are for adults (18+) only.
Whatever you choose, start around 10mg a day, count drops rather than filling the dropper, and increase slowly.
FAQs
What is the strongest CBD oil you can legally buy in the UK?
In October 2026 the strongest oils from well-known UK brands were 40%, such as 4,000mg in 10ml, and a few oils on the FSA public list were labelled 50%. To be sold legally, a CBD oil should be on the FSA public list with no more than 1mg of THC or other controlled cannabinoids per bottle.
Is 3,000mg or 5,000mg CBD oil too strong?
It depends on the bottle size. 3,000mg in 30ml is 10%, about 5mg per drop, which is a standard strength. 3,000mg in 10ml is 30% (about 15mg per drop) and 5,000mg in 10ml is 50% (about 25mg per drop), so one drop is above the FSA’s 10mg a day advice.
Is stronger CBD oil better?
No. A stronger oil is more concentrated, so you need fewer drops for the same mg, and it usually costs less per mg. It doesn’t work better, and it makes it easier to take more than you intended.
How many drops of a strong CBD oil make 10mg?
About one drop of a 20% oil, two drops of a 10% oil and four drops of a 5% oil. A single drop of a 30% or 40% oil is already 15mg to 20mg, more than 10mg.
What is the strongest CBD oil for pain?
There isn’t one. Strength doesn’t make CBD a treatment for pain, and CBD oils sold as food supplements aren’t licensed to treat any condition. If you live with pain, speak to your GP or pharmacist about your options.
Does strong CBD oil get you high?
No. CBD doesn’t cause a high at any strength. A high comes from THC, so choose a broad spectrum or isolate oil with a lab report showing THC not detected. Very large amounts of CBD can make some people sleepy.
