Broad spectrum CBD oil is a hemp extract that keeps CBD and other hemp compounds, such as CBG, CBC and terpenes, but has the THC removed. It is one of the most popular types in the UK. The best ones show a recent batch lab report with THC not detected, a clear mg-per-drop strength and an FSA public list entry.
What is broad spectrum CBD oil?
Broad spectrum CBD oil starts as a whole hemp extract. It keeps CBD alongside other natural hemp compounds, such as the minor cannabinoids CBG, CBC and CBDV, plus terpenes and flavonoids. The one thing taken out is THC, which is a controlled drug in the UK.
Hemp is extracted whole, then refined (often by chromatography) to strip out the THC. Methods vary and we don’t publish ours, so judge any oil by its batch lab report, not by how it says it was made.

Is broad spectrum CBD really THC-free?
“0% THC” on a label should mean the lab did not detect THC in that batch. A lab report shows this as “ND” (not detected): below the lab’s limit of detection, rather than a guaranteed zero.
UK law sets the bar. Under the Home Office’s exempt product rules, no one component part of a product may contain more than 1mg of a controlled cannabinoid, and the Home Office says producers should be able to show compliant levels of Δ9-THC, Δ8-THC and CBN. The FSA also sets a safe upper limit of 70µg of Δ9-THC a day.
Labels aren’t always right. When researchers tested 29 CBD products sold in the UK, 55% had measurable THC or CBN (both controlled drugs), and only 11 of the 29 were within 10% of the CBD stated on the label. Broad spectrum vs full spectrum vs isolate (the short version)
Full spectrum keeps everything, including small amounts of THC, which is legally risky in the UK. Isolate is CBD alone, 99% or more pure. Broad spectrum sits in between.

Does broad spectrum CBD work better than isolate?
The case for broad spectrum rests on the “entourage effect”: the idea that cannabinoids and terpenes work better together than CBD alone. It is still a hypothesis. A widely cited 2011 review proposed this synergy “if proven”, and human trials comparing broad spectrum with isolate are lacking.
So there’s no solid evidence that one works better. People who choose broad spectrum often like the wider plant profile and earthy taste. People who choose isolate want a neutral taste or the purest form; the FSA’s first three recommended approvals are all at least 98% pure CBD. How to choose the best broad spectrum CBD oil in the UK
The NHS points out that CBD oils sold as food supplements come with no guarantee of quality, so check these:
- A batch-matched lab report. From an ISO 17025 accredited lab, matching your bottle’s batch number, with Δ9-THC, Δ8-THC and CBN as ND, CBD within about 10% of the label, and checks for heavy metals and solvents.
- An FSA public list entry. Search the brand name on the FSA’s CBD products list. Listed doesn’t mean authorised: it means the application is being assessed.
- Strength in mg per drop, not just a percentage. 1,000mg in a 10ml bottle gives about 5mg per drop; the same 1,000mg in 30ml gives about 1.7mg. See CBD oil strengths explained.
- The carrier oil. MCT is light and nearly tasteless. Compare it with others in MCT vs hemp seed vs olive oil.
- A short, clear ingredients list. If botanicals or flavourings are added, they should be named.
- Price per mg. Divide the price by the total mg of CBD.
- Red flags. Claims to treat anxiety, pain or sleep problems (food supplements can’t make medicinal claims), “contains CBN”, no batch number, or “organic” without a certifier’s logo.

How much broad spectrum CBD oil should you take?
Work in mg, not drops: a drop holds a different amount at each strength. Drops of our oils for about 10mg:

The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication.

Is broad spectrum CBD legal in the UK?
Yes. CBD itself is not a controlled drug. THC and CBN are Class B, which is why a legal broad spectrum oil must meet the Home Office exempt product test and show compliant THC and CBN levels. CBD food products are also novel foods, so in England and Wales they should only be sold if they are on the FSA’s public list. Scotland has its own process through Food Standards Scotland.
In September 2026 the FSA board recommended its first three CBD applications for authorisation, all at least 98% pure CBD with a 10mg daily maximum; ministers make the final decision. Products linked to other validated applications, including all of ours (RP438, RP821 and RP47), stay on the list and remain legal to sell while those applications are assessed. It gives you CBD plus other hemp compounds such as CBG and terpenes, without THC. Research into CBD is ongoing; as a food supplement it isn’t a treatment for any condition. Most people take it as part of a daily routine.
Does broad spectrum CBD oil contain any THC?
The aim is none detected. Check the batch lab report shows THC as ND (not detected). UK rules also cap any controlled cannabinoid at 1mg per component part of a product.
Is broad spectrum better than full spectrum?
It’s different rather than better. Full spectrum keeps small amounts of THC, which is legally risky in the UK; broad spectrum removes it.

Will broad spectrum CBD show up on a drug test?

How many drops of broad spectrum CBD oil should I take?
It depends on the strength. About 10mg is 4 drops of a 500mg 10ml oil or 2 drops of a 1,000mg 10ml oil. The FSA advises healthy adults to take no more than 10mg a day, as a precaution.
Who shouldn’t take broad spectrum CBD oil?
The FSA doesn’t recommend CBD for under-18s, people taking any medication, or anyone trying to conceive, pregnant or breastfeeding, unless under medical direction. We don’t recommend our products during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and they are never for pets.
