Last updated: November 2026
Sainsbury’s sells one own-brand magnesium supplement, Sainsbury’s Magnesium 375mg: one tablet gives 375mg of magnesium from magnesium oxide, plus 1.4mg of vitamin B6. When we checked in November 2026 it had no glycinate tablets or capsules, but its website listed 14 magnesium products, including a Zooki glycinate liquid, gummies, a spray and bath flakes.
Facts come from Sainsbury’s own website and labels, checked on 1 November 2026. Evopure isn’t sold by or connected with Sainsbury’s, and we don’t rate or review other brands.

View productDoes Sainsbury’s sell magnesium glycinate?
Not as tablets or capsules: a search for “glycinate” returned no products. Two products contain it under its other name, bisglycinate:
- Zooki Magnesium, pineapple flavour (17ml sachet): the nutrition table lists 2,000mg of magnesium bisglycinate per sachet, giving 200mg of magnesium (53% NRV). Not suitable for children. More in our Zooki magnesium guide.
- Trip Peach Yuzu Magnesium and Electrolyte sachets (6): a “magnesium blend” of bisglycinate and malate, 100mg of magnesium per sachet, with coconut water powder, ashwagandha root powder and vitamins D3 and K2.
Glycinate and bisglycinate usually mean the same thing; our bisglycinate guide explains the names, and the magnesium glycinate guide covers what the research says.
Label maths: compound vs magnesium
Magnesium in a supplement is bound to a partner, such as glycine. Some labels give the whole compound’s weight; what counts is the elemental magnesium:
| Product (daily serving) | Compound | Elemental magnesium |
|---|---|---|
| Zooki (1 sachet) | 2,000mg bisglycinate | 200mg (53% NRV) |
| Sainsbury’s 375mg (1 tablet) | Oxide, about 620mg (our sum) | 375mg (100% NRV) |
| Solgar Citrate (2 tablets) | Citrate (weight not given) | 400mg (107% NRV) |
So in the Zooki sachet, magnesium is a tenth of the bisglycinate’s weight, while oxide is about 60% magnesium, which is why one small tablet holds 375mg. But packing more in isn’t the same as absorbing it: a US lab study measured only about 4% of magnesium oxide absorbed, and in a 60-day UK trial in 46 healthy adults, citrate raised blood magnesium more than an amino-acid chelate or oxide. See magnesium oxide, magnesium citrate and glycinate vs citrate vs threonate.
Sainsbury’s magnesium tablets
- Sainsbury’s Magnesium 375mg (60 tablets): magnesium oxide and vitamin B6, one tablet a day. Labelled suitable for vegans and not recommended for children under 12; seek medical advice first if pregnant or planning a pregnancy.
- Vitabiotics Ultra Magnesium (60 tablets): magnesium hydroxide, two tablets a day with your main meal. Not suitable for children; ask your doctor or pharmacist first if you have epilepsy or are under medical supervision. See our Vitabiotics Ultra Magnesium guide.
- Solgar Magnesium Citrate (60 tablets): magnesium citrate, two tablets a day for adults, preferably at mealtime. See Solgar magnesium.
- Vitl Essential Magnesium (20 effervescent tablets): magnesium citrate with ginger root extract, one tablet a day dissolved in 200ml of water, for adults only.
Sainsbury’s lists its own 375mg tablet in its “Sleep and relaxation” and “Energy and vitality” aisles, but no health claim linking magnesium to sleep is authorised in the UK. A 2021 review of three trials in 151 older adults rated the evidence low to very low quality, and a 2025 trial of 250mg of magnesium bisglycinate a day in 155 adults with poor sleep found a small effect on insomnia scores. More in magnesium for sleep.
Sainsbury’s magnesium gummies, drinks and powders
- Vitawell Magnesium Strawberry Gummies (60): magnesium citrate, 170mg in two gummies, for adults and children over 12. Glucose syrup is the first ingredient and sucrose the third.
- Trip Wild Berry Magnesium Gummies (60): magnesium citrate with L-theanine, 180mg in two gummies, sweetened with maltitol and sorbitol (the label warns too many may be laxative). More on the brand in our Trip guide.
- Spacegoods Astro Dust (7 sachets): a chocolate drink powder with magnesium citrate (169mg per 8g), glycine, KSM-66 ashwagandha and mushroom extracts. Ashwagandha isn’t suitable for everyone; see ashwagandha safety in the UK and our Spacegoods guide.
- Tonic Kids Calm Gummies (30): a children’s gummy for ages 3 to 12, 120mg of magnesium citrate with chamomile and lemon balm. Ask a GP or pharmacist before giving any supplement to a child; ours are for adults only. See magnesium for kids.

Sainsbury’s magnesium spray, lotion and bath flakes
- BetterYou Magnesium Sleep Body Spray (100ml): water, magnesium chloride and glycerin, with lavender and chamomile oils. You spray it on and massage it into the skin.
- BetterYou Magnesium Sleep Body Lotion (180ml): magnesium chloride in a shea butter lotion.
- Westlab Magnesium Flakes Bath Soak (800g): one ingredient, magnesium chloride (as the hexahydrate). The pack says 1 to 4 cups in a warm bath for at least 20 minutes.
We found no Epsom salts (magnesium sulphate) on the website: a search for “epsom” returned no products. These products go on your skin, not in your mouth, and a 2017 review concluded that absorbing magnesium through the skin is scientifically unsupported. See magnesium spray, magnesium flakes, Epsom salt baths and BetterYou magnesium.
Where Evopure fits
We sell online, direct. These are different products, not swaps:
- Magnesium Glycinate Sleep Complex: a berry drink powder with magnesium bisglycinate and citrate (148mg of magnesium per serving), glycine, L-theanine, chamomile, passionflower, hops and oat straw. Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to normal psychological function. Subscribe and Save works out cheaper per serving.
- Reishi Mushroom Adaptogenic Complex: a reishi hot chocolate with cocoa and maca. It contains a little natural caffeine.
- Sleep CBD Oil: broad spectrum CBD with 0% THC, plus passion flower and a terpene blend led by myrcene. CBD isn’t a treatment for sleep problems. If you take any regular medicines, check with your GP or pharmacist first.
The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication.
All three are vegan and made in the UK, for adults (18+) only. We don’t recommend our products during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
How much a day, and who should check first
The NHS says adults aged 19 to 64 need 300mg of magnesium a day (men) or 270mg a day (women), most of which you should get from food. It adds that 400mg or less a day from supplements is unlikely to cause any harm, and that more than 400mg for a short time can cause diarrhoea.
Add up everything you take. The Sainsbury’s tablet (375mg) and the Seven Seas pack (375mg) together would be 750mg, nearly double that. If you take medication, have a kidney condition or are pregnant, speak to a pharmacist or GP first. More in how much magnesium per day, magnesium side effects and the best time to take magnesium.
