DIRTEA is a London-based functional mushroom brand. When we checked its UK website in October 2026, DIRTEA Coffee listed 1,000mg of lion’s mane and 50mg of caffeine per 2.5g serving. The Cacao and Chai each list lion’s mane, tremella and reishi, and the gummies list 2,400mg to 3,000mg of mushroom per two-gummy serving.

Below: the range, caffeine, how to use it, safety and a label checklist. These are facts from DIRTEA’s own site, not a review.

Like the idea of a mushroom hot chocolate? Our Reishi Mushroom Adaptogenic Complex is a reishi hot chocolate made with reishi mushroom extract, organic cacao and maca. It contains a little natural caffeine from the cacao. Evopure isn’t connected with DIRTEA.

What does DIRTEA make?

DIRTEA’s UK site has four lines (checked 23 October 2026):

  • Super Blends: mushroom drink powders, namely Coffee, Cacao, Chai and Matcha.
  • Gummies: Focus (lion’s mane), Performance (cordyceps), Immunity (chaga), Beauty (tremella) and Calm (reishi with magnesium).
  • Pure Powders: single mushrooms (lion’s mane, reishi, cordyceps, chaga, tremella and turkey tail), 2,000mg in a 2g serving.
  • Pure Essentials: creatine monohydrate and collagen peptides, also sold in sets with the Coffee and Matcha.

Here is what the drink pages list per serving:

Blend Mushrooms per serving Serving Caffeine (as stated)
Coffee Lion’s mane 1,000mg 2.5g 50mg
Cacao Lion’s mane 1,100mg, tremella 1,100mg, reishi 500mg 6g Not stated
Chai Lion’s mane 1,100mg, tremella 1,100mg, reishi 200mg 6g Not stated
Matcha Lion’s mane 1,250mg, tremella 1,250mg 6g Not stated

Across the range, DIRTEA says it uses “100% organic dual-extracted fruiting bodies” (hot water and alcohol extraction), and its drink pages state more than 40% beta-glucans. It says the Super Blends are vegan, gluten-free and certified organic by the Organic Food Federation, made in the UK from mushrooms sourced from China and Siberia, and that every batch is third-party tested. For the mushrooms themselves, see our functional mushrooms guide.

DIRTEA mushroom coffee: what’s in it

DIRTEA Coffee is a powdered blend of arabica coffee and lion’s mane extract. The ingredients list reads: organic coffee (56%), organic lion’s mane extract (40%), organic maca root powder and an organic vitamin B complex made from whole foods such as guava, spirulina and chlorella.

  • Per 2.5g serving: 1.4g of arabica coffee, 1,000mg of lion’s mane and 50mg of maca, plus eight B vitamins at 12% to 91% of the reference intake.
  • Pack sizes: 75g (30 servings) and 150g (60 servings), plus travel sachets.
  • Decaf: DIRTEA’s FAQ says it doesn’t offer one “at the moment”.

One general FAQ on the site also mentions ashwagandha, which isn’t in the current ingredients list, so go by the label on your pouch. For mushroom coffee in general, see our mushroom coffee guide.

How much caffeine is in DIRTEA?

DIRTEA states 50mg of caffeine per serving of its Coffee, and says it has “up to 80% less caffeine than regular coffee”. The NHS puts a cup of instant coffee at about 100mg, with filter and coffee-shop coffee often higher, so the gap depends on what you usually drink.

Drink Caffeine Source
DIRTEA Coffee, 2.5g 50mg DIRTEA
Cup of instant coffee About 100mg NHS
Cup of tea About 75mg NHS
DIRTEA Cacao, 6g Not stated; roughly 6mg from 2.8g cacao Our estimate, USDA data
DIRTEA Chai, 6g Not stated; contains under 1g black tea DIRTEA

Cacao: DIRTEA describes it as a “caffeine-free alternative to coffee or hot chocolate” and focuses on theobromine. Cacao does naturally contain a little caffeine: USDA data give about 230mg per 100g of unsweetened cocoa powder, so the 2.8g in a serving works out at roughly 6mg: small, but worth knowing if you avoid caffeine completely.

Chai and Matcha: both contain tea (under 1g of black tea, or 1.1g of matcha), which naturally contains caffeine. DIRTEA gives no figure and says the chai is “not highly caffeinated”. The gummies and Pure Powders are caffeine-free, according to DIRTEA’s FAQ.

For context, EFSA says up to 400mg of caffeine a day is not a safety concern for healthy adults, though 100mg close to bedtime may affect sleep in some people. See how long caffeine lasts and coffee alternatives.

DIRTEA Cacao, Chai and Matcha: ingredients

DIRTEA Cacao

Organic cacao powder (47%, 2.8g a serving), tremella, lion’s mane and reishi extracts, coconut milk powder, coconut MCT, moringa, pink Himalayan salt and the B vitamin complex. No sugar appears in the ingredients list. For what reishi and cacao each bring, see reishi cacao benefits and our healthy hot chocolate guide.

DIRTEA Chai

Lion’s mane (1,100mg), tremella (1,100mg) and reishi (200mg) extracts with organic black tea, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom flavour, cloves, coconut sugar and B vitamins. DIRTEA calls it a 14-ingredient blend.

DIRTEA Matcha

Lion’s mane and tremella extracts (1,250mg each), ceremonial-grade Japanese matcha (1.1g), coconut sugar, coconut milk powder, MCT and moringa. More on the tea itself in matcha benefits.

DIRTEA gummies: what’s in each one

All five come in tubs of 60, with a serving of two gummies a day. DIRTEA says they are vegan, use pectin rather than gelatine, contain no sugar and are for adults only. The Focus and Performance gummies we checked are sweetened with maltitol, isomalt and xylitol; the Calm gummies list isomalt, maltitol and stevia. Unlike the Super Blends, DIRTEA says the gummies can’t be classed as organic.

Gummy Mushroom per 2 gummies Added nutrients
Focus Lion’s mane 2,400mg B5, B12
Performance Cordyceps (C. sinensis) 3,000mg B3, B5, vitamin C
Immunity Chaga 3,000mg Vitamin C, zinc
Beauty Tremella 3,000mg Biotin, vitamins A, C, E, selenium, zinc
Calm Reishi, “3,000mg extract equivalent” Magnesium citrate 56mg

Only the Calm gummies use the word “equivalent”, which generally refers to the dried mushroom used to make an extract rather than the weight of extract itself. If you want to compare strengths across brands, ask which one a figure means. For gummies in general, see mushroom gummies: do they work?

How to use DIRTEA

  • Coffee: add a 2.5g scoop (about a teaspoon) to a cup with 35ml of hot water for an “espresso”, then 150ml of steamed milk.
  • Cacao, Chai and Matcha: a 6g scoop whisked into 100ml of hot water, topped with 150ml of steamed milk.
  • Pure Powders: 2g on its own or stirred into tea, coffee or a smoothie.
  • Gummies: two a day.

DIRTEA’s recommended daily serving is one scoop of each blend, and it says you can combine blends through the day. On timing, its FAQ says there are no firm rules: cordyceps tends to suit mornings, and reishi suits the evening but “is not a sedative”. If caffeine affects your sleep, keep the Coffee, Chai and Matcha to earlier in the day.

What the research says about the mushrooms

No published trial has tested DIRTEA’s products. In Great Britain, authorised health claims exist for added vitamins and minerals, such as B vitamins, vitamin C, zinc and magnesium, but not for any mushroom. On the mushrooms:

  • Lion’s mane: in a Japanese trial of 30 older adults with mild cognitive impairment, 3g a day of dried lion’s mane for 16 weeks improved memory scores against placebo, which fell after stopping. A UK pilot in 41 young adults (1.8g a day) found mixed, tentative results. See our lion’s mane guide.
  • Cordyceps: in a small US study, 28 young adults took 4g a day of a blend containing Cordyceps militaris; most measures didn’t change after one week, and a subgroup of 10 who carried on for three weeks improved on some exercise measures. DIRTEA’s gummies list a different species, C. sinensis. See cordyceps.
  • Reishi, chaga and tremella: human research is limited. See reishi, chaga and lion’s mane vs reishi vs cordyceps.

Trials used different preparations, so their amounts don’t line up neatly with any product.

Side effects and who should check first

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: DIRTEA says to consult your doctor first. The NHS advises no more than 200mg of caffeine a day in pregnancy, counting every source. We don’t recommend our own products during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Children: DIRTEA says the Super Blends shouldn’t be given to children under 10, and the gummies are for adults only.
  • Medication: DIRTEA says to check with your doctor. Memorial Sloan Kettering notes that reishi may increase bleeding risk with blood thinners and may not suit people on immunosuppressants, and lists case reports of liver injury with powdered reishi.
  • Allergens: DIRTEA says the Super Blends contain no allergens but are packed where nuts, seeds, cereals, soya and gluten are handled.
  • Caffeine: the Coffee, Chai and Matcha contain caffeine. Add them to your other coffee and tea.

Is DIRTEA worth it? A label checklist

We don’t review or rate other brands, and we haven’t tested DIRTEA’s products. Whether any mushroom drink suits you depends on what is in the scoop. These are the questions we’d ask of any label, ours included:

Check Why it matters Where to look
Mushroom and mg per serving Totals per pack can look bigger Ingredients panel
Fruiting body or mycelium Mycelium on grain can include starch Product page or FAQ
Extract or “equivalent” Equivalent can mean dried weight before extraction Label wording
Beta-glucan % A common marker of extract strength Label or batch report
Caffeine per serving Matters for sleep and pregnancy Label or FAQ
Batch test reports Confirms contents and purity Ask the brand if not published

We didn’t see batch reports published on DIRTEA’s site when we checked, though it says every batch is tested. Our mushroom supplement buying guide goes deeper.

If you like the idea: our options

If you like the idea of a warm mushroom mug, here is what Evopure makes. They’re different products, not like-for-like swaps.

  • Reishi Mushroom Adaptogenic Complex: a reishi hot chocolate with reishi mushroom extract, organic cacao, maca, coconut milk powder and coconut sugar. It contains a little natural caffeine from the cacao.
  • Magnesium Glycinate Sleep Complex: a berry powder with magnesium bisglycinate and citrate (148mg magnesium per serving), glycine, L-theanine and chamomile. Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
  • Flow CBD Oil: broad spectrum CBD with 0% THC, plus ashwagandha and maca in MCT oil, taken drop by drop. See our CBD dosage guide.

The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication.

All three are vegan, made in the UK and third-party lab tested, for adults only.
