What’s in Ancient + Brave True Collagen and Wild Collagen?

True Collagen has one ingredient: “100% Bovine Hydrolysed Collagen Peptides (Type I)”, from grass-fed herds in the EU. Per 5g it lists 18kcal and 4.5g of protein, with no fat or sugar. A 200g jar holds about 40 servings.

How much to take: the brand recommends 5 to 10g a day in any drink. A heaped teaspoon is about 5g.

Wild Collagen is “100% Marine Hydrolysed Collagen Peptides (fish)”, which the brand says come from MSC-certified wild-caught fish from Alaska. It carries a warning for anyone with a fish or shellfish allergy.

Is Ancient + Brave collagen vegan? No. Both are labelled “Not suitable for vegans or vegetarians”. Its vegan powder, Radiant Collagyn, contains no collagen: it lists chickpea protein with amino acids such as glycine and proline, plus vitamin C.

Does collagen work? What the evidence says

Ancient + Brave reports a 12-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of True Collagen in 60 healthy UK women aged 35 to 55, led by its own Director of Science. We couldn’t find it on PubMed in October 2026, so the results are as the brand reports them.

Independent reviews are more mixed. A 2025 meta-analysis of 23 trials (1,474 people) found skin improvements overall, but none in trials without industry funding or in the high-quality trials. The authors concluded there is currently no clinical evidence to support collagen for preventing or treating skin ageing.

For joints, a 2019 meta-analysis in osteoarthritis found less stiffness, but no clear change in pain or physical function scores. No health claim for collagen is authorised in Great Britain. More in our collagen supplements guide.

Ancient + Brave cacao: what’s in it and does it have caffeine?

There was no product called “True Cacao” on the UK site when we checked. The cacao drinks are Cacao + Collagen and Cacao + Chaga. Both are 10g servings, mixed to a paste with hot water and topped with 150 to 200ml of warm milk.

Label detail Cacao + Collagen Cacao + Chaga
Base Organic raw cacao, organic cocoa Organic raw cacao, organic cocoa
Added 2g collagen, 200mg ashwagandha 1.5g chaga (fruiting body)
Caffeine 1,620mg/kg, about 16mg per serving “A small amount”, no figure
Sugar per serving 0.5g 0.7g
Vegan No Yes

The 16mg is our maths from the brand’s figure. For scale, the NHS estimates about 100mg in a mug of instant coffee. More in our hot chocolate before bed and ceremonial cacao guides.

Two ingredients are worth reading up on: ashwagandha, where Ancient + Brave says to watch your total intake across its products, and chaga, which is high in oxalate. Matcha + Collagen adds 1g of lion’s mane, with caffeine from matcha. See functional mushrooms, mushroom coffee and how to choose a mushroom supplement.

If you’re comparing evening cacao drinks

We’ve also covered Spacegoods and DIRTEA. We make one too: our Reishi Mushroom Adaptogenic Complex is a reishi hot chocolate with reishi mushroom extract, organic cacao, maca, coconut milk powder and organic coconut sugar. It’s a different product with no collagen, and contains a little natural caffeine from the cacao. See reishi cacao, reishi tea or hot chocolate gifts.

Our Magnesium Glycinate Sleep Complex is a berry drink powder with magnesium bisglycinate and citrate (148mg magnesium per serving), glycine, L-theanine and herbal extracts. Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Flow CBD Oil combines broad spectrum CBD (0% THC) with ashwagandha and maca in MCT oil.

The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication.

All three are vegan and made in the UK, for adults (18+) only. We don’t recommend our products during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Ancient + Brave True Creatine+ and the magnesium products

True Creatine+ lists, per 6g serving: creatine monohydrate 4.5g (3.9g creatine), taurine 1g, magnesium 57mg and vitamin D3 0.75µg. A 180g jar is 30 servings. In Great Britain, creatine has an authorised claim for physical performance in successive bursts of short-term, high-intensity exercise, at 3g a day. See our creatine guide.

True Magnesium+ is 2 capsules giving 240mg magnesium from bisglycinate, malate and taurate, suitable for vegans. Magnesium also appears in True Hydration (108mg) and True Nightcap (130mg). Taking Magnesium+, Hydration, Nightcap and Creatine+ on the same day would add up to 535mg. The NHS says 400mg or less a day from supplements is unlikely to cause harm. More in types of magnesium.
