Last updated: November 2026
Yes, Asda sells magnesium glycinate. When we checked its website in November 2026, it listed Verywell Vitamins Magnesium+ Bisglycinate capsules: two a day give 300mg of magnesium. Asda’s own-brand ASDA Wellbeing Magnesium 375mg tablet uses oxide and citrate, and Asda also sold magnesium citrate gummies, an effervescent tablet and bath salts.
Everything below comes from Asda’s own website and the labels it shows, checked on 1 November 2026. Evopure isn’t connected with Asda, and we don’t rate or review other brands.
What magnesium does Asda sell?
A search for “magnesium” on Asda’s grocery website returned 16 results. These are the supplements you swallow, with the magnesium each gives a day according to its label:
| Product | Magnesium form | Magnesium a day | Serving |
|---|---|---|---|
| Verywell Magnesium+ Bisglycinate (60 capsules) | Bisglycinate | 300mg | 2 capsules |
| ASDA Wellbeing Magnesium 375mg (30 tablets) | Oxide, citrate | 375mg | 1 tablet |
| Verywell Muscle Health Magnesium 375mg (30) | Oxide | 375mg | 1 tablet |
| Vitabiotics Magnesium (60 tablets) | Hydroxide | 375mg | 2 tablets |
| Verywell Magnesium Effervescent Lemon (20) | Carbonate | 187.5mg | 1 tablet in water |
| Ultra 300mg Magnesium Gummies (60) | Citrate | 300mg | 2 gummies |
| Vitawell Magnesium Strawberry Gummies (60) | Citrate | 170mg | 2 gummies |
Vitawell Night Sweet Dreams gummies add 56.25mg of magnesium each, and Asda also listed high protein yoghurts with added magnesium, two Westlab bath salts and Milk of Magnesia, which is a constipation remedy rather than a supplement. We found no magnesium spray. Stock varies by store, so treat this as a snapshot. For what each form means, see the types of magnesium.

The one glycinate on Asda’s website is Verywell Vitamins Magnesium+ Bisglycinate 2 a Day. Its listing gives:
- Per 2 capsules: 300mg of magnesium, 80% of the NRV (nutrient reference value).
- Ingredients: magnesium bisglycinate, a vegetable capsule shell (HPMC), an anti-caking agent and a bulking agent. Labelled suitable for vegans.
- Pack and use: 60 capsules, so 30 days at two a day with food. The label says it is for adult use only.
Bisglycinate and glycinate usually mean the same thing: magnesium bound to two glycine molecules. Our bisglycinate guide explains the names, and the magnesium glycinate guide covers what the research says. Asda had no own-brand glycinate when we checked.
Label maths: what the numbers mean
Magnesium is always bound to a partner, such as glycine or citric acid. What counts is the elemental magnesium, the magnesium itself, and every Asda listing gives it:
| Product (daily serving) | Compound | Elemental magnesium |
|---|---|---|
| Verywell Bisglycinate (2 capsules) | Bisglycinate (weight not given) | 300mg (80% NRV) |
| ASDA Wellbeing 375mg (1 tablet) | Oxide and citrate | 375mg (100% NRV) |
| Ultra Gummies (2 gummies) | Citrate | 300mg (80% NRV) |
| Vitawell Gummies (2 gummies) | Citrate | 170mg (45% NRV) |
Pure magnesium bisglycinate is only about 14% magnesium by weight, so 300mg of magnesium needs roughly 2,100mg of the compound (our sum; Verywell doesn’t give it). That’s why glycinate comes as two big capsules, while oxide, which is about 60% magnesium, fits 375mg into one tablet.
Asda magnesium tablets
- ASDA Wellbeing Magnesium 375mg Tablets 1 a Day: Asda’s own brand, packed for Asda in Leeds. Magnesium oxide and magnesium citrate (the label doesn’t split the amounts), giving 375mg of magnesium, 100% NRV. Vegan Society registered. For adults and children over 12, one tablet a day with food.
- Verywell Muscle Health Magnesium 375mg: magnesium oxide, one tablet a day with food, 375mg of magnesium. Vegan, adults only.
- Vitabiotics Magnesium: magnesium hydroxide, two tablets a day with your main meal for 375mg. Vegan, and labelled not suitable for children. Our Vitabiotics Ultra Magnesium guide has more.
- Verywell Magnesium Effervescent: magnesium carbonate in a lemon tablet you dissolve in 200ml of water, giving 187.5mg. It contains sweeteners.
Oxide is the least absorbed of the common forms: a US lab study measured only about 4% of oxide absorbed. In a 60-day UK trial in 46 healthy adults, citrate raised blood magnesium more than an amino-acid chelate or oxide. See magnesium oxide, or compare forms in glycinate vs citrate vs threonate.
Asda magnesium citrate and gummies
Asda listed no plain citrate capsules or tablets. The citrate it sold came in gummies, plus the citrate that shares the own-brand tablet with oxide:
- Ultra 300mg Magnesium Strawberry Gummies: magnesium citrate with 1.4mg of vitamin B6. Two gummies a day give 300mg of magnesium. Vegan friendly, not for children under 12, and sugar and glucose syrup come next in the ingredients.
- Vitawell Magnesium Strawberry Gummies: magnesium citrate, 170mg from two gummies. Glucose syrup is the first ingredient. For adults and children over 12.
- Vitawell Night Sweet Dreams Black Cherry Gummies: one sugar-free gummy gives 56.25mg of magnesium (citrate), 2.8mg of vitamin B6, 20mg of L-theanine and small amounts of chamomile, lavender, lemon balm, asparagus racemosus and Montmorency cherry extracts. For adults and over-16s.

Does Asda sell magnesium spray?
Not when we checked. A search for “magnesium spray” on Asda’s website returned only a deodorant. It did list two Westlab bath salts: a Magnesium Replenishing Bath Salt (800g) and an Epsom Muscle Soak (1kg).
Bath salts and sprays go on your skin, not in your mouth. A 2017 review concluded that absorbing magnesium through the skin is scientifically unsupported. See magnesium spray and Epsom salt baths.
Where Evopure fits
We sell online, direct. These are different products, not swaps:
- Magnesium Glycinate Sleep Complex: a berry drink powder with magnesium bisglycinate and citrate (148mg of magnesium per serving), glycine, L-theanine, chamomile, passionflower, hops and oat straw. Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to normal psychological function. Subscribe and Save works out cheaper per serving, and you can skip, pause or cancel any time.
- Reishi Mushroom Adaptogenic Complex: a reishi hot chocolate with cocoa, reishi mushroom, maca, cinnamon and coconut sugar. It contains a little natural caffeine.
- Sleep CBD Oil: broad spectrum CBD with 0% THC, plus passion flower and a terpene blend led by myrcene. CBD isn’t a treatment for sleep problems. If you take any regular medicines, check with your GP or pharmacist first.
The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication.
All three are vegan and made in the UK, for adults (18+) only. We don’t recommend our products during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Asda magnesium for sleep
The only magnesium product we found in Asda’s sleep and stress vitamins aisle was Vitawell Night Sweet Dreams, and its label claims are for the nervous system and psychological function, not sleep. No health claim linking magnesium to sleep is authorised in the UK.
The sleep trials so far are small. A 2021 review of three trials in 151 older adults rated the evidence low to very low quality, and a 2025 trial of 250mg of magnesium bisglycinate a day in 155 adults with poor sleep found a small effect on insomnia scores.
iSee magnesium for sleep, L-theanine and the best time to take magnesium. If poor sleep goes on for weeks, speak to your GP.
How much a day, and who should check first
The NHS says adults aged 19 to 64 need 300mg of magnesium a day (men) or 270mg a day (women), most of which you should get from food. It adds that 400mg or less a day from supplements is unlikely to cause any harm, and that more than 400mg for a short time can cause diarrhoea.
Add up everything you take. The own-brand 375mg tablet and the Ultra gummies together would be 675mg. Most of these labels say to check with a doctor, pharmacist or healthcare professional first if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking medication. Asda sold no magnesium made for young children; the own-brand tablet and two of the gummies are labelled for over-12s. Ask a GP or pharmacist before giving any supplement to a child (ours are for adults only), and see magnesium for kids.
