Last updated: October 2026

This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray is a fragrance mist for your pillow, made with lavender, camomile and vetivert essential oils. When we checked thisworks.com in October 2026, the directions were simply to spritz your pillow before you sleep. Research on lavender scent is small, so it may help some people relax, but it isn’t a sleep treatment.

These are facts from This Works’ own website and the research, not a review. Evopure isn’t connected with This Works.

This Works says its lavender oil is roughly 30 to 55% linalool and 20 to 45% linalyl acetate, the two compounds behind most of lavender’s scent (see what are terpenes?).

The wider Deep Sleep range includes a shower gel, bath oil, magnesium beauty soak, body whip, diffuser, Breathe In rollerball, skincare and gift sets. For magnesium on the skin, see magnesium spray and Epsom salt baths.

How to use it

This Works says to spritz your pillow before you sleep, or mist your bedlinen as the first step of a wind-down routine. Its warnings: avoid your eyes, external use only, don’t spray silk or delicate fabrics, and it may cause an allergic skin reaction.

A spray is one cue among several; see our bedtime routine for adults.

Deep Sleep vs Sleep Plus pillow spray

This Works’ FAQ says both sprays use the same lavender, camomile and vetivert fragrance. The difference is how it is released:

Detail Deep Sleep Sleep Plus
Release Immediate burst Encapsulated, motion-activated
Aimed at Falling asleep Staying asleep
When to spray Before sleep Getting into bed, or when awake at night
Sizes 75ml to 400ml 50ml, 100ml

This Works says they can be used together or separately. If you wake at night, see how to stay asleep.

Does This Works pillow spray work?

The brand’s own studies. This Works reports four user studies with over 600 people, using self-rated questionnaires. Its headline figures (89% fell asleep faster, 97% slept better) come from “a study of 100 subjects and 100 ex-prescription users compared to no product”. These are brand-run consumer panels, and we found no peer-reviewed publication of them.

The brain-scan study. This Works cites a 2018 conference abstract by Professor Gaby Badre and colleagues. The fuller 2019 paper in Chemosensory Perception scanned 30 healthy adults smelling Deep Sleep and another This Works scent, plus a home test in 12 people with long-term insomnia. The authors reported “some beneficial impact on sleep”. The paper lists This Works as a partial funder.

Lavender in general. A 2026 review of 11 small trials (628 adults) linked lavender essential oil to better self-rated sleep quality, but the authors said the studies were too few and too varied to be sure. A lab study of 31 young adults found a little more deep sleep on a lavender night. No independent trial has tested a pillow spray. More in lavender for sleep and deep sleep.

So a pleasant scent may help some people relax at bedtime. If you have had trouble sleeping for months, the NHS advises seeing a GP; see our insomnia guide.

Where Evopure fits

Evopure doesn’t make a pillow spray. For an evening routine:

The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication.

All three are vegan, made in the UK and for adults (18+) only.

Pregnancy, babies, children and pets

  • Pregnancy: This Works’ FAQ says it doesn’t recommend its Deep Sleep bath oil or retinoid products in pregnancy, lists no contraindications for its other products, and says Sleep Plus is suitable in pregnancy. Ask your midwife if unsure. We don’t recommend our products during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Babies and children: This Works says Deep Sleep and Sleep Plus suit ages 3 and up under adult supervision, and points to a milder baby spray for 6 months and up. Keep it out of reach of children. Our products are for adults only.
  • Dogs and cats: This Works says the spray hasn’t been assessed by a vet and advises against spraying pet bedding. Cats Protection lists lavender oil among essential oils that are toxic to cats.
