Last updated: November 2026

The best CBD oil for beginners in the UK is a low-strength broad spectrum oil with 0% THC, a clear mg per serving, a batch lab report and a place on the FSA public list. For a first oil, Evopure’s Broad Spectrum CBD Oil 500mg is CBD and coconut MCT oil only, and about 0.2ml gives 10mg.

Prefer not to measure? Our Broad Spectrum CBD Capsules give exactly 10mg each. We make both, so we are not neutral: the checklist below works for any brand, and the comparison table uses each brand’s own published facts.

Our pick

CBD Oil Broad Spectrum

Broad Spectrum CBD Oil is just broad spectrum CBD and MCT oil, in 500mg, 1,000mg or 2,000mg. Half a pipette is 0.35ml (17.5mg on the 500mg); about 0.2ml on the 500mg (0.1ml on the 1,000mg) gives 10mg.

Which CBD oil is best for beginners in the UK?

Look for a low strength you can measure easily, no detectable THC and a product on the FSA public list. Here are our two starter products next to three widely sold UK oils that their makers describe as suited to people new to CBD. Facts are from each brand’s own website and the FSA public list, checked November 2026.

Product Type and carrier CBD per stated amount FSA public list
Evopure Broad Spectrum CBD Oil 500mg (10ml, 5%) Broad spectrum, MCT oil 17.5mg per half pipette; about 0.2ml gives 10mg Validated (RP438)
Evopure Broad Spectrum CBD Capsules 10mg (30) Broad spectrum, inulin, HPMC capsule 10mg per capsule Validated (RP438)
Naturecan 5% CBD Oil (10ml or 30ml) Broad spectrum, MCT oil 2mg per drop (brand’s figure) Validated (RP-105)
Love Hemp CBD Oil Drops 300mg Mild (30ml, 1%) Broad spectrum, MCT oil, wild cherry flavour 10mg per ml Validated (RP-106)
Provacan Vital CBD Oil 300mg (10ml, 3%) Full spectrum, olive oil About 1.5mg per drop (brand’s figure) Validated

Naturecan calls its 5% oil a good choice for beginners, Love Hemp says the 300mg is its mildest strength, and Provacan describes Vital as ideal for people new to CBD. Provacan’s oils are full spectrum, which means they contain a small amount of THC (the brand states 0.05% or less), so read full spectrum vs broad spectrum if you are drug tested at work. Evopure isn’t connected with these brands. We haven’t listed prices because they change; compare cost per 10mg instead (price divided by total mg, times 10). Our brand guides cover Naturecan, Love Hemp and Provacan in more detail, and the best CBD oil UK guide compares more brands.

How much CBD should a beginner take?

Start low. The Food Standards Agency advises healthy adults to take no more than 10mg of CBD a day. On our 500mg oil that is about 0.2ml, a little over half of a half pipette; on the 1,000mg oil it is about 0.1ml. One 10mg capsule matches it exactly. Drop sizes vary between droppers, so we give ml rather than drops.

The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication.

Stay at the same amount for a week or two before changing anything, and take it at the same time each day. Some labels and websites still show 70mg a day, the FSA’s figure before October 2023. Our CBD dosage guide has a 10mg chart for every Evopure oil and capsule, and CBD oil strength explained shows how to read mg and % on any bottle.

Is CBD oil or capsules better for a beginner?

Both work as a starting point; it depends on whether you want flexibility or simplicity.

  • Oil: easy to adjust in small steps, and held under the tongue for about a minute. Some people dislike the earthy taste.
  • Capsules: the same 10mg every time, no taste and nothing to measure. Slower to be absorbed, and you can’t easily take less.

What should a beginner check on a CBD label?

Check What good looks like
CBD in mg Total mg in the bottle, plus mg per drop, ml or serving
Type Broad spectrum or isolate if you want to avoid THC
Lab report An independent batch report showing CBD content and THC “not detected”
FSA public list The product is linked to a novel food application on the list
Ingredients A short list with a named carrier oil such as MCT or olive oil
Honest wording No promise to treat or cure anything; CBD food supplements can’t make medical claims
Contact details A UK address and a way to reach the company

Watch out for “hemp oil” with no CBD stated: it may be hemp seed oil (see hemp oil vs CBD oil). For the details, read how to read a CBD lab report, is CBD legal in the UK? and how to avoid CBD scams.

Who is CBD oil suitable for, and who should avoid it?

Our CBD products are for adults aged 18 and over. Many of our customers are in their 50s, 60s and 70s; if that is you, our guide to CBD for older adults covers the extra checks.

As a precaution, the FSA doesn’t recommend CBD for people under 18, people taking any medication, those trying to conceive, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless under medical direction. If you take any regular medicines, check with your GP or pharmacist first, and read CBD and medication interactions. We don’t recommend our products during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

CBD doesn’t get you high (see does CBD get you high?). Possible side effects include tiredness, an upset stomach and changes in appetite; see CBD side effects. If you are drug tested at work, read does CBD show up on a drug test? first.

How do you take CBD oil for the first time?

  1. Shake the bottle and draw up a little oil with the pipette.
  2. Place about 0.2ml (on a 500mg, 10ml bottle) under your tongue.
  3. Hold it there for about 60 seconds, then swallow.
  4. Take it at the same time each day, with or after food if you prefer.
  5. Keep a short note of how you feel for two weeks before changing the amount.

Most people notice nothing dramatic, and that is normal. See how to take CBD oil, what CBD feels like and how long CBD takes to work. New to the basics? Start with what is CBD?

Rather not measure?

CBD Capsules Broad Spectrum

If a fixed amount sounds easier, Broad Spectrum CBD Capsules give exactly 10mg of broad spectrum CBD in each tasteless vegan capsule, 30 a tub.

Questions, answered

A low-strength broad spectrum oil with 0% THC, a clear mg per serving, a batch lab report and a place on the FSA public list. A 5% oil (500mg in 10ml) is a common starting point because 10mg is a small, easy amount to measure.

Our Broad Spectrum CBD Oil 500mg: broad spectrum CBD and MCT oil only, with about 0.2ml giving 10mg. If you'd rather not measure, our Broad Spectrum CBD Capsules give 10mg per capsule. Both are on the FSA public list and made in the UK.

Most beginners start with 5% (500mg in 10ml) or lower. Stronger oils aren't better for starting out; they just put more CBD in each drop, which makes small amounts harder to measure.

The FSA advises healthy adults to take no more than 10mg a day. That is about 0.2ml of a 500mg (10ml) oil or one 10mg capsule. Stay at that amount for a week or two before changing anything.

Oil is easier to adjust in small steps; capsules give the same amount every time with no taste. Choose oil for flexibility and capsules for simplicity.

No. CBD doesn't cause a high. Broad spectrum oils have the THC removed, while full spectrum oils contain small amounts of THC, a controlled drug in the UK that can show up on drug tests.

The FSA advises healthy adults to keep to 10mg a day as a precaution. It doesn't recommend CBD for under-18s, people taking medication, or anyone trying to conceive, pregnant or breastfeeding. If you take regular medicines, check with your GP or pharmacist first.
