Clipper Sleep Easy is an organic, caffeine-free herbal tea. When we checked Clipper’s UK shop in October 2026, it listed cinnamon, chamomile (25%), rooibos, lemon balm (5%), valerian root (5%) and natural orange flavouring (5%). Each 2g bag works out at roughly 500mg of chamomile and 100mg of valerian.

For how other blends compare, see our best tea for sleep guide. Facts come from Clipper’s and Aldi’s own pages; this isn’t a review, and Evopure isn’t connected with Clipper or Aldi.

What’s in Clipper Sleep Easy tea?

A box holds 20 bags and weighs 40g, so about 2g per bag:

Ingredient Share of blend Per 2g bag (our estimate)
Chamomile 25% About 500mg
Lemon balm 5% About 100mg
Valerian root 5% About 100mg
Orange and other natural flavourings 5% About 100mg
Cinnamon, rooibos Not stated Not stated

Clipper marks every ingredient as organically grown and says the blend is naturally caffeine-free and packed in the UK. Clipper’s directions: pour boiling water over the bag, infuse for 5 minutes, and drink 1 to 2 cups before bedtime.

Don’t confuse it with Clipper’s Sleep Time (chamomile, lemon balm and lavender, which some retailers list as Snore and Peace): it has no valerian. Both were in stock on Clipper’s UK shop on 28 October 2026, so Sleep Easy hasn’t been discontinued.

How much valerian is in Clipper Sleep Easy?

About 100mg per bag (5% of 2g). The European Medicines Agency’s traditional-use dose for valerian root tea is 0.3g to 3g, so one bag holds about a third of the lowest dose. See our valerian root guide.

Aldi’s Diplomat Sleep tea: what’s in it?

Diplomat is Aldi’s own-label tea range. When we checked Aldi’s UK website on 28 October 2026, Diplomat Sleep Herbal Tea Bags came in a 20-bag, 40g box (about 2g per bag), with “Camomile, Apple and Passionflower” and “Caffeine free blend” on the front of the pack. Aldi’s page doesn’t give the full ingredients list, percentages or directions, so check the side of your box. Aldi’s search page marked it “While Stock Lasts”.

Does Clipper Sleep Easy work?

No trial has tested this tea, or Aldi’s. Research on their herbs is small and mixed:

  • Chamomile: a 2024 review of 10 trials (772 people) found better sleep quality scores, but no change in how long people slept. See chamomile tea.
  • Valerian: a 2006 review of 16 trials found it might improve sleep quality, but most studies had design problems, and a 2007 review concluded it was safe but not effective.
  • Lemon balm: a 2023 trial in 100 adults with low mood or poor sleep found better wellbeing scores on a 400mg daily extract; a tea bag holds about 100mg of dried leaf. See lemon balm.
  • Passionflower: in a 2011 trial, 41 young adults rated their sleep quality a little better after a week of passionflower tea than after a placebo tea. See passion flower benefits.

So a cup may help a little as part of a caffeine-free wind-down. The NHS says see a GP if poor sleep has lasted months or affects daily life. See our insomnia guide.

If you like the idea: our options

We don’t make a tea, but these suit an evening routine:

  • Magnesium Glycinate Sleep Complex: a berry-flavoured drink powder with magnesium bisglycinate and citrate (148mg magnesium per serving), with L-theanine, glycine, and chamomile and passionflower extracts among its ingredients. Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue. See magnesium for sleep and magnesium drinks compared.
  • Sleep CBD Oil: broad spectrum CBD (0% THC) with passion flower extract and a night-time terpene blend. CBD isn’t a treatment for sleep problems.
  • Reishi Mushroom Adaptogenic Complex: a reishi hot chocolate. It contains a little natural caffeine from the cacao, so it suits earlier in the evening.

The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication.

Side effects and who should check first

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: the NHS suggests no more than 4 cups of herbal tea a day in pregnancy, and the EMA doesn’t recommend valerian in pregnancy or breastfeeding. Ask your midwife. We don’t recommend our products during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Daisy-family allergy: the EMA says chamomile shouldn’t be used by people allergic to plants in the daisy (Asteraceae) family.
  • Driving and medicines: valerian may affect driving (EMA). Ask a pharmacist if you take sleeping tablets, anxiety medicine or other sedatives.
  • Stomach upsets: the EMA lists nausea and stomach cramps for valerian, frequency unknown.
  • Children: the EMA doesn’t recommend valerian or passionflower under 12. Our products are for adults (18+) only.

Other night teas: Pukka Night Time, Twinings sleep tea and Yogi Bedtime. Other bedtime ideas: does Horlicks help you sleep, lettuce water and natural sleep aids ranked by evidence. A box also makes an easy addition to a self-care hamper.
