Last updated: October 2026
Four Sigmatic is a mushroom coffee brand founded by a Finnish team. When we checked its websites in October 2026, its instant mushroom coffees listed 50mg of caffeine per serving, about half the NHS figure for a cup of instant coffee, with lion’s mane as the main mushroom. UK buyers order from its international store.
These are facts from Four Sigmatic’s own sites, not a review. Evopure isn’t connected with Four Sigmatic.
Prefer a mushroom hot chocolate? Our Reishi Mushroom Adaptogenic Complex is a hot chocolate made with reishi mushroom extract, organic cacao and maca. It contains a little natural caffeine from the cacao.
What does Four Sigmatic sell?

Four Sigmatic mushroom coffee ingredients
International version (what UK orders get): organic medium roast instant coffee, organic lion’s mane fruiting body extract and organic yacon root powder. Stir 1 1/2 teaspoons into hot water. The ground versions use Arabica ground coffee with the same lion’s mane and yacon.
US version: a different blend, listing lion’s mane, chaga, cordyceps, reishi and turkey tail, plus vitamin B12 and probiotics. US reviews may describe a product the UK store doesn’t sell.
How much mushroom? The coffee pages don’t give milligrams per mushroom. The help centre says every product contains “a minimum of 500 mg/serving” of functional ingredients, and that each Elixir serving holds 1,500mg of mushrooms.
Other details it states: fruiting body extracts, “not mycelium”; USDA or CCOF certified organic; vegan; no gluten, wheat or soy ingredients; third-party tested, including for mycotoxins. For the category, see our mushroom coffee guide.
How much caffeine is in Four Sigmatic?
Four Sigmatic says its instant mushroom coffees contain 50mg of caffeine a serving, “about half the caffeine as a regular cup of coffee”. The international Original Instant page also shows “65 mg caffeine” in one panel, so check your pack. The ground coffees are full strength: about 150mg per 12oz cup, its help centre estimates.
For scale, the NHS estimates 100mg in a cup of instant coffee and 75mg in tea. EFSA says up to 400mg a day is not a safety concern for healthy adults, though 100mg near bedtime may affect sleep. In pregnancy the NHS limit is 200mg a day.
The cocoas: the Calm Cacao page calls it “a caffeine-free treat” but also lists 6mg per packet, and the Dark Hot Cocoa about 10mg, from the cacao itself. See how long caffeine lasts.
Can you buy Four Sigmatic in the UK?
Yes, online. We found no separate UK website. Four Sigmatic’s help centre sends international customers to its EU store, which lists the United Kingdom as a country it ships to directly. Orders go by DHL from the Netherlands, prices show in euros, and customs fees may apply.
The help centre names iHerb as an authorised online retailer for all locations but doesn’t list Amazon UK, so on a marketplace, check the seller and which version (US or international) you are getting.
If you’re comparing options: we don’t make a mushroom coffee, and we’re not saying ours are better, but this is what’s in ours:
- Reishi Mushroom Adaptogenic Complex: a reishi hot chocolate with reishi mushroom extract, organic cacao, maca, coconut milk powder and coconut sugar. It contains a little natural caffeine from the cacao.
- Magnesium Glycinate Sleep Complex: a berry drink powder with magnesium bisglycinate and citrate (148mg magnesium per serving), glycine, L-theanine, chamomile, passionflower, hops and oat straw. Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
- Flow CBD Oil: broad spectrum CBD with 0% THC, plus ashwagandha and maca in MCT oil.
The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication.
All three are vegan, made in the UK and for adults only. We don’t recommend our products during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Lion’s mane and reishi: what the research says
No published trial has tested the coffee itself, and none of these mushrooms has an authorised UK health claim.
Lion’s mane. The best-known trial gave 30 Japanese adults aged 50 to 80 with mild cognitive impairment four 250mg tablets of dried lion’s mane three times a day (about 3g a day) for 16 weeks. Scores rose against placebo, then fell after they stopped. A 2023 UK pilot in 41 young adults (1.8g a day) had mixed results. More in our lion’s mane guide.
Reishi, chaga and cordyceps. Human studies are small and mixed. See reishi, chaga, cordyceps and lion’s mane vs reishi vs cordyceps.
Side effects and who should check first
- Caffeine: the likeliest cause of jitters or poor sleep. Add it to your daily total.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Four Sigmatic recommends asking your healthcare professional first. Count the caffeine towards the NHS 200mg limit.
- Medication: Memorial Sloan Kettering says chaga (in Shield) may increase bleeding risk with blood thinners such as warfarin. Ask your GP or pharmacist.
- Kidney problems: chaga is high in oxalate; there are case reports of kidney damage after heavy use.
Is Four Sigmatic worth it? A label checklist
That’s a personal call, and we haven’t tested it. We’d ask these questions of any brand, ours included:
| Check | What to look for | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Version | US or international formula | Ingredients differ |
| Amounts | mg of each mushroom | Shows the dose |
| Part used | Fruiting body or mycelium | Different materials |
| Caffeine | mg per serving | Adds to your total |
| Testing | Third-party, incl. heavy metals | Shows what was checked |
| Safety notes | Pregnancy, medication | Who should ask first |
