Lush’s CBD massage bar is now Magik: a 65g solid massage bar with 98mg of CBD and 1,500mg of magnesium chloride, plus ginseng, ashwagandha and shiitake. When we checked Lush’s UK site in November 2026, the original CBD bar, Joints (25mg of CBD), was marked “Leaving soon” and unavailable.

Evopure isn’t connected with Lush; the facts below come from lush.com and official UK sources.

What’s in the Lush Magik CBD massage bar?

Lush lists 98mg of CBD and 1,500mg of magnesium chloride in each 65g bar. The CBD appears on the label as “Cannabidiol in Hemp Seed Oil”. The main ingredients:

  • Butters and oils: Fair Trade organic cocoa butter, shea butter, moringa oil, illipe butter, organic jojoba oil, organic sacha inchi oil and seabuckthorn oil.
  • Calamine powder, second on the list.
  • Plant extras: an ashwagandha root and Siberian ginseng infusion, fresh shiitake mushroom and panax ginseng root powder, which Lush calls adaptogens.
  • Scent: chamomile blue oil, jasmine, ylang ylang and violet leaf, plus listed fragrance components including linalool, geraniol and eugenol.

Lush describes Magik as self-preserving and tags it vegan. For the ingredients themselves, see our guides to ginseng and shiitake; ashwagandha taken as a supplement has its own UK safety questions.

The Lush Joints massage bar

Joints was Lush’s first CBD massage bar, launched in UK shops and online on 26 December 2021 alongside the 4:20PM CBD perfume. Each 65g bar has 25mg of CBD. Lush’s CBD FAQ says Joints uses a raw material of 10% CBD mixed with 90% hemp oil. Its base is cocoa butter, shea butter and organic castor oil, scented with patchouli, pimento berry, petitgrain, ginger, sandalwood and celery seed oils.

When we checked, the Joints page said “Leaving soon” and showed it as unavailable, and it no longer appeared in Lush’s massage bar list.

Lush’s other CBD products

Magik is a small collection. Lush’s CBD FAQ gives these amounts:

  • Magik temple balm: 40mg of CBD, about 1.5mg per use.
  • Magik shower gel: 60mg of CBD per 120g, 140mg per 280g and 290mg per 580g, about 6.5mg per use.
  • Magik bath bomb: an Epsom salt cube with CBD and powdered shiitake.
  • 4:20PM perfume: 1,000mg of CBD per 30ml.

Lush says its CBD comes from industrial hemp stems and seeds and is tested to make sure it contains no THC at the end of every production run. Its FAQ says its CBD products ship within the UK and to seven EU countries.

Lush magnesium bars: Deep Sleep, After and Magik

Searching for a Lush magnesium bar? Lush sells three 65g massage bars made with magnesium chloride (checked 2 November 2026):

  • Deep Sleep: lavender, chamomile and neroli, with 122mg of magnesium chloride per 5g of bar. No CBD.
  • After: peppermint, eucalyptus and spearmint oils, witch hazel and an arnica and devil’s claw decoction, also with 122mg of magnesium chloride per 5g. No CBD. This is the magnesium and arnica bar.
  • Magik: 1,500mg of magnesium chloride plus 98mg of CBD per bar, as above.

At 122mg per 5g, a whole Deep Sleep or After bar holds about 1,590mg of magnesium chloride (our sum), close to Magik. Lush’s magnesium range also includes two Epsom salt bath bombs (Deep Sleep and Salt Water Soother), the Magik bath bomb and Volcano foot soak.

Lush’s own magnesium ingredient page says doubts remain about how well magnesium passes through the skin, which matches the research below. For magnesium you swallow, see how much magnesium per day; for bath salts, see Epsom salt baths.

How to use a Lush massage bar

Lush’s directions are to melt the bar directly onto dry skin and massage the oils and butters in. If the bar is cold, warm it between your hands first. The bars are oil-rich, so use as much or as little as you like.

  • Do you wash it off? Lush’s directions are to massage it in; they don’t say to rinse. If you feel oily afterwards, a warm shower takes off the excess.
  • Storage: keep it in a lidded tin, somewhere cool and out of the sun. In very hot weather, Lush suggests the fridge.
  • Don’t eat it. Lush’s FAQ says its products aren’t edible, for people or pets. If anyone swallows one, get medical advice.

CBD and magnesium on skin: what the research says

A 2024 review of CBD in cosmetic dermatology found that most of the work so far is laboratory and animal research, with only a few clinical studies in people. The authors also said better ways of getting CBD through the skin are still needed.

Magnesium on the skin is similar. A 2017 review of magnesium sprays, flakes and salt baths found little scientific support for useful amounts of magnesium passing through the skin, compared with well-studied magnesium taken by mouth. Our guides to magnesium cream, magnesium spray and magnesium flakes go into the detail.

So think of any CBD massage bar as a rich moisturiser for massage. CBD isn’t a treatment for any condition; if pain, stress or sleep problems are affecting your daily life, see your GP.

Pregnancy, children and sensitive skin

Lush’s pages say that children and pregnant and breastfeeding adults should get advice from a doctor before trying its CBD products, because studies on CBD in cosmetics for these groups are limited. For pregnancy massage, Lush sells a separate bar, The Bump, which doesn’t list CBD in its ingredients. See CBD in pregnancy.

Sensitive skin? Read the full ingredient list first: Magik contains fragrance and several listed fragrance allergens. See also our dry skin guide.

Lush CBD massage bar reviews and buying safely

We haven’t tested Lush’s bars and don’t rate other brands. Lush shows customer reviews on each product page; read the middling scores too, and treat any review saying CBD treated a condition with caution.

Buy from lush.com, a Lush shop or the Lush Spa. Some search results for Lush CBD products lead to unfamiliar websites using the Lush name, so check the web address before you pay. Our guide to avoiding CBD scams has more checks.

Where Evopure fits

Evopure is a separate UK company and isn’t connected with Lush. We don’t make massage bars. Our nearest product is a CBD balm in a tin, which you scoop and massage in:

  • CBD Balm: 600mg of broad spectrum CBD with peppermint, eucalyptus and juniper. Cooling and non-greasy, with a fresh minty scent rather than a floral one. A cosmetic for massage. See our CBD balm guide and CBD balm vs Tiger Balm.
  • Magnesium Glycinate Sleep Complex: a berry drink powder with magnesium bisglycinate and citrate (148mg of magnesium a serving), glycine, L-theanine, chamomile, passionflower, hops and oat straw. Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue. See magnesium and sleep.
  • Sleep CBD Oil: broad spectrum CBD drops with passion flower, 500mg or 1,000mg, for an evening routine. If you take any regular medicines, check with your GP or pharmacist first.

Our CBD products are 0% THC and tested by ISO 17025 accredited labs, with reports on request from our lab testing page. Our CBD oils are on the FSA public list, linked to validated applications. All our products are vegan and made in the UK, for adults (18+) only. We don’t recommend our products during pregnancy or breastfeeding. See choosing a CBD oil in the UK and our guides to Holland and Barrett CBD and CBD at Boots.

The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication.
