Last updated: October 2026
Yogi Tea Bedtime is an organic, caffeine-free herbal tea. When we checked Yogi’s UK website in October 2026, the UK blend listed fennel (31%), chamomile (17%), peppermint (13%), cardamom, lemon balm, lemongrass, valerian root (6%), sage, lavender and nutmeg. That works out at about 108mg of valerian in each 1.8g bag.
Facts below come from Yogi’s own UK and US pages; this isn’t a review, and Evopure isn’t connected with Yogi Tea. For other blends ranked by the research, see our guide to the best tea for sleep.
What’s in Yogi Bedtime tea?
A box holds 17 bags of 1.8g. Per-bag amounts are our estimates:
| Ingredient | Amount | Sleep evidence | Caution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fennel | 31%, about 560mg | No sleep trials found | Mainly flavour |
| Chamomile | 17%, about 305mg | Small trials, modest | Daisy-family allergy |
| Peppermint | 13%, about 235mg | No sleep trials found | Mainly flavour |
| Valerian root | 6%, about 108mg | Mixed | Pregnancy, driving |
| Lemon balm | Not stated | One extract trial | None listed |
| Lavender | Not stated | One small tea trial | None listed |
| Cardamom, lemongrass, sage, nutmeg | Not stated | Flavour herbs | None listed |
Yogi marks every ingredient as certified organic (Soil Association) and says its teas are vegan. Yogi suggests 250ml of freshly boiled water per bag, infused for 5 to 6 minutes, or longer for a stronger cup.
Does Yogi Bedtime tea work?
No trial has tested this tea. Research on its main herbs is small and mixed:
- Valerian: a review of 16 trials (1,093 people) found it might improve sleep quality, but most studies had design problems. The European Medicines Agency’s traditional tea dose is 0.3g to 3g, so one bag holds about a third of the lowest dose. See our valerian root guide.
- Chamomile: a 2024 review of 10 trials (772 people) found better sleep quality scores. In one tea trial in 80 postnatal women, the gains had faded by four weeks. More in chamomile tea.
- Lemon balm: one 3-week trial in 100 adults used a 400mg daily extract, far stronger than a tea. See lemon balm.
- Lavender: one small trial of lavender tea in postnatal women found less fatigue at two weeks, not at four. See lavender for sleep.
A 2015 review of herbal medicines for insomnia found no clear difference from placebo. So a cup may help a little as part of a calm bedtime routine. For other branded blends, compare Pukka Night Time tea and Twinings Sleep tea.
If poor sleep has lasted for months or is affecting your days, the NHS advises seeing a GP. Our insomnia guide explains what helps.
If you like the idea: our evening options
Evopure doesn’t make a tea, but these suit the same wind-down slot:
- Magnesium Glycinate Sleep Complex: a berry drink powder with magnesium bisglycinate and citrate (148mg magnesium per serving), glycine, L-theanine, hops, oat straw, and chamomile and passionflower extracts. Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue. See magnesium for sleep and our magnesium drinks guide.
- Sleep CBD Oil: broad spectrum CBD (0% THC) with passion flower extract and a terpene blend. CBD isn’t a treatment for sleep problems. Read about passion flower.
- Reishi Mushroom Adaptogenic Complex: a reishi hot chocolate with cacao and maca. It contains a little natural caffeine, so it suits earlier in the evening.
The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication.
Our products are for adults (18+) only.
UK vs US Yogi Bedtime: not the same tea
The US Bedtime recipe on Yogi’s American page is different: licorice root, chamomile, spearmint, skullcap, cardamom, cinnamon, passionflower extract, rose hip, valerian root extract, lavender and stevia, in 16 bags. The UK blend has no liquorice, skullcap or passionflower.
Some UK sites sell the imported US box, and some online articles describe the US recipe. If your box has 16 bags and lists passionflower, it is the US version. Soothing Caramel Bedtime isn’t in Yogi’s UK range.
Does Yogi Bedtime tea have caffeine?
No. Yogi’s UK page says Bedtime is naturally caffeine free. Watch the similar names:
| Yogi UK tea (Oct 2026) | Valerian? | Caffeine (Yogi’s page) |
|---|---|---|
| Bedtime | Yes, 6% | Naturally caffeine free |
| Bedtime Rooibos Vanilla | No | “Contains caffeine” (cocoa shells) |
| Sweet Dreams | No (hops 1.5%) | Caffeine free |
| Relax | No | Naturally caffeine free |
Yogi Evening and Calm aren’t in the current UK range. See how long caffeine lasts.
Side effects and who should check first
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: the EMA doesn’t recommend valerian, and the NHS suggests no more than 4 cups of herbal tea a day and avoiding liquorice-root teas (the US recipe has liquorice). Ask your midwife. We don’t recommend our products during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Children: the EMA doesn’t recommend valerian under 12. Ask a GP or pharmacist before giving any herbal tea to a child.
- Driving and medicines: valerian may impair driving. Ask a pharmacist if you take any medicine.
- Allergies and stomach: avoid chamomile if you’re allergic to daisy-family plants. The EMA lists nausea and stomach cramps as possible valerian side effects.
Other bedtime drinks: Horlicks, lettuce water, Lemme Sleep and our natural sleep aids ranked by evidence.
