New Leaf Magnesium Glycinate gives 1,040mg of magnesium bisglycinate in two capsules, which provides 208mg of magnesium itself, 55% of the reference intake. The label says to take two capsules a day. The only other ingredients are a plant-based capsule shell and magnesium stearate, and New Leaf says the formula is vegan and gluten free.

Facts below come from New Leaf Products’ own UK website and labels, checked on 26 October 2026. Evopure isn’t connected with New Leaf, and we don’t rate or review other brands.

What’s in New Leaf magnesium glycinate

The ingredients list reads: magnesium bisglycinate, capsule shell (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, a plant-based shell) and an anti-caking agent (magnesium stearate). The label states no artificial colours or flavours. It comes in pots of 120 capsules (two months) or 360 capsules (six months), with the same formula.

The label maths is worth knowing. The 1,040mg on the front is the weight of the whole compound, magnesium bound to glycine. The magnesium itself, called elemental magnesium, is 208mg per two capsules, so about 104mg per capsule. That is the number to compare with the NHS figures below and with other brands. For how forms differ, see our magnesium glycinate guide and the types of magnesium.

New Leaf’s magnesium range at a glance

Product Magnesium form Compound per 2 capsules Magnesium per 2 capsules
Magnesium Glycinate Bisglycinate 1,040mg 208mg (55% RI)
Magnesium 4in1 Complex Bisglycinate, malate, citrate, oxide 1,836mg 381mg (102% RI)
Magnesium Glycinate + B6 and Turmeric Buffered bisglycinate Not stated 300mg (80% RI)
Magnesium Citrate Citrate 1,620mg 486mg (130% RI)

New Leaf also sells Magnesium Malate (1,200mg of the compound per two capsules) and Magnesium and Zinc tablets (160mg of magnesium from citrate, plus 2.5mg of zinc a day). All the capsules above use a plant-based shell, and New Leaf says its products are made in the UK to GMP standards and tested by a third-party lab.

Magnesium glycinate or the 4 in 1 complex?

The 4in1 Complex is the product many searches call “New Leaf magnesium glycinate 4 in 1”. Its label breaks down to 1,200mg of bisglycinate, 321mg of malate, 310mg of citrate and 5mg of oxide, giving 381mg of magnesium. So most of it is glycinate, but it carries nearly twice the magnesium of the plain glycinate. If you want glycinate only, the plain version is the one; if you want a mix of forms, the complex is. Our guide to magnesium complexes explains blends in general.

How to take it, and when

The directions say two capsules a day, following the dose on the label. They don’t name a time of day. Many people take magnesium with their evening meal or in the evening as part of a wind-down routine. Whatever time you choose, stay within the daily dose. Where Evopure fits

Evopure isn’t connected with New Leaf. Our products are different, not like-for-like swaps:

  • Magnesium Glycinate Sleep Complex: a berry-flavoured drink powder with magnesium bisglycinate and citrate (148mg of magnesium per serving), glycine, L-theanine, chamomile, passionflower, hops and oat straw. Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
  • Reishi Mushroom Adaptogenic Complex: a reishi hot chocolate with organic cacao and maca. It contains a little natural caffeine.
  • Sleep CBD Oil: broad spectrum CBD with 0% THC, plus passion flower, for an evening routine. CBD isn’t a treatment for sleep problems.

The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication.

All three are vegan and made in the UK, for adults (18+) only. We don’t recommend our products during pregnancy or breastfeeding. For a wider look at forms and doses, see our UK magnesium supplement guide.

Magnesium glycinate and sleep: what the research says

No sleep claim for magnesium is authorised in the UK, and the research is modest. A 2021 review of three trials in 151 older adults found people fell asleep about 17 minutes faster than with placebo, but judged the evidence low quality. A 2025 trial in adults reporting poor sleep, using magnesium bisglycinate, found a small improvement in insomnia scores at four weeks. More in magnesium for sleep.

How much is too much?

The NHS says adults need 300mg (men) or 270mg (women) of magnesium a day, and that 400mg or less a day from supplements is unlikely to cause harm. More than 400mg for a short time can cause diarrhoea. New Leaf Magnesium Glycinate (208mg) sits well inside that. Two Magnesium Citrate capsules (486mg) go over it, so add up every product you take.

New Leaf’s labels say the products are not for under-18s, and to see a GP first if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking prescription medication or under medical supervision. See how much magnesium per day and magnesium side effects.

New Leaf glycinate is also listed on Tesco Marketplace; see Tesco magnesium.
