Last updated: October 2026

New Nordic lists ten products in the magnesium section of its UK website, mostly under the Magic Magnesium name. Magic Magnesium Glycinate tablets give 240mg of magnesium per two tablets, with B vitamins, vitamin D and pine bark extract. The 600mg in the name is not the magnesium figure. Checked October 2026.

Facts come from newnordic.co.uk, checked on 28 October 2026. Evopure isn’t connected with New Nordic, and we don’t review other brands. Nordic Naturals is a different brand; this page covers New Nordic only.

The four Magic Magnesium tablets also contain long pepper extract. Melissa Dream is a sleep tablet listed outside the magnesium section. The tenth magnesium product is Kids Magic Magnesium, a chewable for children from 3 with magnesium oxide, calcium and vitamin D. Ours are for adults only, so ask a GP or pharmacist before giving any supplement to a child.

The Shot, Powder, both gummies, Longevity Magnesium Gold and Melissa Dream are marked vegan on New Nordic’s site. The four Magic Magnesium tablets are marked gluten free and lactose free, without a vegan mark. The Citrate Gummies contain sugar.

Why “600mg” isn’t the amount of magnesium

New Nordic’s page titles give a bigger number than the nutrition tables: Glycinate 600mg, Citrate 750mg, Malate 800mg and Taurate 875mg. The tables give 240mg, 247.5mg, 240mg and 140mg of magnesium per two tablets. So one Glycinate tablet gives 120mg of magnesium. Holland and Barrett lists the Shot as “600mg 15 Sachets”, and each sachet gives 240mg.

The figure that counts is the magnesium in the nutrition table. The NHS says adults need 300mg (men) or 270mg (women) a day, mostly from food, and that 400mg or less a day from supplements is unlikely to cause harm. Other brands name products by compound weight too, as we found at Holland and Barrett. More in how much magnesium per day.

Which New Nordic magnesium fits which need?

The labels make the differences clear:

  • Glycinate without extra vitamins: the Shot (a ready-to-drink liquid), the Powder (orange flavour) and the Gummies contain magnesium and pine bark, with no added vitamins.
  • Glycinate with vitamins: the tablets add 20µg of vitamin D and B vitamins, including 5mg of vitamin B6. If you already take a multivitamin or vitamin D, add them up. The NHS says not to take more than 10mg of B6 a day from supplements unless a doctor advises it, and not more than 100µg of vitamin D.
  • Citrate, malate or taurate: the same vitamin base with a different form of magnesium. For how the forms compare, see types of magnesium, magnesium glycinate and magnesium citrate.
  • Three forms in one: Longevity Magnesium Gold combines bisglycinate, malate and taurate, with black pepper extract.

On absorption, the evidence is small. In a 60-day UK trial in 46 healthy adults, citrate and an amino-acid chelate were absorbed better than magnesium oxide, and citrate raised blood magnesium the most.

UK alternatives to New Nordic magnesium, by format

We make different products, not like-for-like swaps:

  • Magnesium Glycinate Sleep Complex (ours): a berry-flavoured drink powder with magnesium bisglycinate and citrate (148mg of magnesium per serving), glycine, L-theanine, oat straw, hops, chamomile and passionflower extracts. Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
  • Sleep CBD Oil: broad spectrum CBD with 0% THC, passion flower and a terpene blend led by myrcene.
  • Reishi Mushroom Adaptogenic Complex: a reishi hot chocolate with organic cacao and maca. It contains a little natural caffeine.

The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication.

All three are vegan and made in the UK, for adults (18+) only. We don’t recommend our products during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

How to take New Nordic magnesium glycinate

  • Tablets (Glycinate, Citrate, Malate, Taurate): one tablet in the morning and one in the evening, with a glass of water.
  • Glycinate Shot: one sachet a day, shaken, drunk straight from the sachet.
  • Glycinate Powder: one sachet a day, mixed into water.
  • Glycinate Gummies: two a day with a meal.
  • Longevity Magnesium Gold: two tablets a day with water.

All say not to exceed the stated dose, and the adult products say they aren’t suitable for children under 12. For timing in general, see the best time to take magnesium.

New Nordic magnesium for sleep, and Melissa Dream

New Nordic files several glycinate products under “Sleep Supplements”, but no sleep claim for magnesium is authorised in the UK. The research is modest: a 2021 review of three trials in 151 older adults found people fell asleep about 17 minutes faster than with placebo, with low-quality evidence. A 2025 trial in 155 adults with poor sleep, using 250mg of magnesium as bisglycinate, found a modest improvement at four weeks. More in magnesium for sleep.

Melissa Dream is New Nordic’s bedtime tablet: two tablets an hour before bed give 600mg of lemon balm extract, 300mg of green tea extract standardised to L-theanine, 200mg of chamomile extract, B vitamins and 120mg of magnesium as oxide. It does not list melatonin, which is prescription-only in the UK. See melatonin in the UK.

Side effects and who should check first

  • Too much magnesium: the NHS says more than 400mg for a short time can cause diarrhoea. The Powder, Shot and Glycinate Gummies labels add that excessive consumption may have a laxative effect.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: New Nordic’s labels say to seek professional advice first.
  • Medication: several labels say to consult your doctor first if you take medication.
