Metagenics Magnesium Glycinate Tablets, sold in the UK under the Nutri Advanced name until the brand change, give 100mg of elemental magnesium per tablet, from 740mg of magnesium bisglycinate. The UK label says two to four tablets a day, which is 200mg to 400mg of magnesium.

Metagenics magnesium in the UK: the main products
Metagenics UK listed 16 magnesium products when we checked. These are the core ones:

The powders add other ingredients: Night has lemon balm and saffron extracts, Calm has taurine and B vitamins, and Calmeze adds glycine, amino acids, B vitamins and vitamin C. Is it 100mg of elemental magnesium?
Yes. The UK page says each tablet contains “100mg elemental magnesium from 740mg fully reacted magnesium glycinate”, which is 27% of the nutrient reference value (NRV). The compound weighs far more than the magnesium in it, because glycine makes up most of it. Other ingredients are microcrystalline cellulose, stearic acid and bamboo extract; the 60-tablet pack is film-coated to make it easier to swallow.
“Mag Glycinate” is the name used in some other countries. The US version also gives 100mg per tablet, but its label says one tablet three times a day. If you buy an imported pack, follow the label on it. Read more in our guide to magnesium glycinate.
How to take Metagenics magnesium glycinate
The UK label says two to four tablets daily, “best taken in the evening as part of a stress support programme or after exercise”. Tablets can be split with a pill cutter.
The NHS says adults need 300mg (men) or 270mg (women) of magnesium a day, mostly from food, and that 400mg or less a day from supplements is unlikely to cause harm. The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. Is Metagenics a practitioner-only brand in the UK?
No. Metagenics UK sells direct to the public, and health professionals can apply for a separate account. The UK site says Nutri Advanced joined the Metagenics group in 2022 and has since moved to the Metagenics name, and that many of its products are made at Metagenics’ European headquarters in Belgium. Some UK chemists and online shops also stock it.
Side effects, sleep and who should check first
The NHS says more than 400mg of magnesium for a short time can cause diarrhoea. Metagenics’ labels ask anyone pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or with a medical condition to consult a healthcare practitioner first. The Calmeze and Muscleze pages add that they aren’t recommended for people with cancer, because they contain glutamine. More in magnesium side effects.
No sleep claim for magnesium is authorised in the UK. A 2021 review of three small trials in older adults found people fell asleep about 17 minutes faster than with placebo, but rated the evidence low quality, and a 2025 trial using 250mg of magnesium as bisglycinate found a small improvement.
