Pure Encapsulations’ UK website sells five magnesium capsules. Magnesium (glycinate) gives 120mg of elemental magnesium per capsule, all as bisglycinate, and the label says one to four capsules a day. Magnesium (Citrate) gives 300mg per two capsules. All five were labelled vegan when we checked in October 2026.

Facts below come from Pure Encapsulations’ UK website and its product information sheets, checked on 26 October 2026. Evopure isn’t connected with Pure Encapsulations, and we don’t rate or review other brands.

Pure Encapsulations’ UK magnesium range

Product Magnesium form Magnesium Label directions
Magnesium (glycinate) Bisglycinate 120mg per capsule 1 to 4 a day
Magnesium (Citrate) Citrate 300mg per 2 capsules 1 to 4 a day
Magnesium (citrate/malate) Citrate/malate 120mg per capsule 1 to 4 a day
Potassium Magnesium (citrate) Citrate 70mg per capsule 4 a day
Calcium Magnesium (citrate/malate) Citrate/malate 300mg per 4 capsules 3 a day

Each one is a vegetarian capsule (hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose) with ascorbyl palmitate as the only other ingredient. All five were labelled vegan, gluten free, dairy free and soya free. The directions say to take them in divided doses, with meals.

Two small label differences: the Magnesium (Citrate) sheet says two capsules once daily, and the Calcium Magnesium sheet says four capsules a day, while their web pages say one to four and three. Follow the pack you buy. For each form in general, see the types of magnesium.

Is the 120mg elemental magnesium or compound weight?

Elemental. The UK product sheet for Magnesium (glycinate) lists 240mg of magnesium per two capsules, 64% of the nutrient reference value (NRV), and Pure Encapsulations’ FAQ says it lists minerals “by their true elemental weight”. The bisglycinate compound itself weighs much more, because glycine makes up most of it.

Not every brand labels this way. Some name a product by the compound weight, as we found at Holland and Barrett, so always look for the line that says “magnesium” with a % NRV beside it.

“Glycinate” and “bisglycinate” are used for the same thing here: the product is called Magnesium (glycinate) and the ingredient is magnesium bisglycinate.

How many Pure Encapsulations magnesium glycinate should I take?

The UK label says one to four capsules daily, in divided doses, with meals, or as a healthcare professional directs. That is 120mg to 480mg of magnesium a day.

The NHS says adults need 300mg (men) or 270mg (women) of magnesium a day, mostly from food, and that 400mg or less a day from supplements is unlikely to cause harm. More than 400mg for a short time can cause diarrhoea. So three capsules (360mg) stays under that figure, while four (480mg) goes above it: speak to a pharmacist or GP before taking that much. Add up every product you take, including any multivitamin.

The label doesn’t mention bedtime. Many people take one dose with their evening meal; see the best time to take magnesium and how much magnesium per day.

Pure Encapsulations magnesium citrate vs glycinate

  • Magnesium (glycinate): 120mg per capsule as bisglycinate. Pure Encapsulations describes it as “suitable for sensitive individuals”.
  • Magnesium (Citrate): 150mg per capsule. Its page notes this amount “may cause mild stomach upset in sensitive individuals”.
  • Magnesium (citrate/malate): 120mg per capsule, from a citrate and malate mix.

On absorption, the evidence is small. In a 60-day UK trial in 46 healthy adults taking 300mg a day, citrate and an amino-acid chelate were absorbed better than oxide, and citrate raised blood magnesium the most. Where Evopure fits

Evopure isn’t connected with Pure Encapsulations. Our products are different, not like-for-like swaps:

  • Magnesium Glycinate Sleep Complex: a berry-flavoured drink powder with magnesium bisglycinate and citrate (148mg of magnesium per serving), glycine, L-theanine, chamomile, passionflower, hops and oat straw. Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
  • Sleep CBD Oil: broad spectrum CBD with 0% THC, plus passion flower extract and a terpene blend, for an evening routine. CBD isn’t a treatment for sleep problems.
  • Reishi Mushroom Adaptogenic Complex: a reishi hot chocolate with organic cacao and maca. It contains a little natural caffeine.

The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication.

All three are vegan and made in the UK, for adults (18+) only. We don’t recommend our products during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Pure Encapsulations magnesium for sleep

Pure Encapsulations’ UK pages use the authorised wording, such as magnesium contributing to normal psychological function and the normal functioning of the nervous system. No sleep claim for magnesium is authorised in the UK.

The research is modest. A 2021 review of three trials in 151 older adults found people fell asleep about 17 minutes faster than with placebo, but rated the evidence low quality. A 2025 trial in 155 adults with poor sleep, using 250mg of magnesium as bisglycinate, found a small improvement at four weeks. See magnesium for sleep for the full picture.

Pure Encapsulations magnesium citrate for constipation

Pure Encapsulations’ UK citrate page makes no constipation claim. The NHS notes that more than 400mg of magnesium can cause diarrhoea, which is why some people ask about it.

For constipation, the NHS suggests more fibre, plenty of fluids and daily exercise first. If that isn’t working, a pharmacist can suggest a laxative. See a GP if it keeps coming back, or with tummy pain, blood in your poo or weight loss. More in magnesium for constipation.

Pure Encapsulations vs Thorne or Doctor’s Best: what to compare

We don’t rank brands. If you’re comparing glycinate capsules, check these on each label:

  • Elemental magnesium per capsule, and how many capsules make a serving.
  • The form: bisglycinate only, or a mix with another form such as oxide.
  • Other ingredients and the capsule (vegetarian or gelatine).
  • Directions, and whether the daily total stays within 400mg from supplements.
  • The version: UK packs carry UK labels and directions; imported US packs may differ.

For UK brands we’ve checked the same way, see Solgar, Healthspan and BioCare, or our guide to choosing a magnesium supplement.

Where to buy Pure Encapsulations magnesium in the UK

The UK website sells direct, has a store locator, and says its products are also available through qualified healthcare practitioners. UK item codes end in “UK” (for example MG9UK for 90 glycinate capsules), which helps you spot a UK pack.

The UK site sold capsules only when we checked. If you see a magnesium liquid, powder or other form online, it is likely an overseas product with different directions. The FAQ says Pure Encapsulations makes its products at its own facility in Sudbury, Massachusetts, and the UK site’s terms of use name Nestlé as its operator.

The labels ask anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, with a health condition or taking medication to consult a health professional first. We didn’t see a children’s magnesium product on the UK site; ask a GP or pharmacist before giving any supplement to a child. See magnesium side effects.
