Cytoplan Magnesium Bisglycinate gives 200mg of magnesium in a daily serving of two capsules, which is 53% of the reference value on UK labels. The only other ingredient is the plant cellulose capsule shell. Cytoplan says to take it with food, and it comes in pots of 60, 120 or 180 capsules (checked November 2026).
Facts below come from cytoplan.co.uk, read on 3 November 2026, plus NHS and Companies House pages. Evopure isn’t connected with Cytoplan, and we don’t rate or review other brands.
What’s in Cytoplan Magnesium Bisglycinate?
The product page lists two ingredients: magnesium bisglycinate and plant cellulose (the capsule shell). It says the product is suitable for vegans and vegetarians, free from wheat, soy, dairy, added sugar, flavourings and colourings, and made at Cytoplan’s own site in Worcester. Cytoplan describes its bisglycinate as “fully reacted”, meaning it says there is no magnesium oxide in the mix.

Glycinate and bisglycinate are two names for the same thing: magnesium bound to the amino acid glycine. Cytoplan’s own FAQ says the same. More in magnesium glycinate vs bisglycinate and our guide to magnesium glycinate.
The label maths: 200mg or 120mg?
- The 200mg is the magnesium itself. The current nutrition panel gives the elemental magnesium for two capsules, so one capsule is about 100mg (our sums).
- Against UK needs: the NHS says adults need 300mg (men) or 270mg (women) a day, mostly from food. Two capsules are about 67% of the men’s figure and 74% of the women’s (our sums), and under the 400mg a day the NHS says is unlikely to cause harm from supplements.
- Why you may see 120mg: Cytoplan’s own magnesium guide still calls the product “Magnesium Bisglycinate 120mg”, and some shops list 120mg per capsule, which looks like an earlier label. Go by the panel on your own pot.
- Compound vs magnesium: bisglycinate is a large molecule, so most of its weight is glycine. That’s why labels that quote only “1,000mg magnesium bisglycinate” give far less magnesium: Myvitamins, for example, gets 112.5mg of magnesium from 1,000mg of the compound.
Use how much magnesium per day as your yardstick, and count any multivitamin you take as well.

Cytoplan sells three other magnesium products. All amounts are per daily serving, from the product pages:
| Product | Daily serving | Magnesium |
|---|---|---|
| Magnesium Citrate | 2 capsules (1,000mg magnesium citrate) | 160mg |
| Magtein Magnesium L-Threonate | 3 capsules (2,000mg magnesium L-threonate) | 144mg |
| Magnesium Complex | 3 capsules (threonate, taurate, malate, bisglycinate) | 200mg |
The threonate shows the compound gap clearly: 2,000mg of magnesium L-threonate gives 144mg of magnesium, about 7% by weight (our sums). In the Complex, 80mg of the magnesium comes from threonate and 40mg each from taurate, malate and bisglycinate. The threonate page says it isn’t suitable in pregnancy, breastfeeding or for children, and to ask a doctor if you take medication. Read more on magnesium citrate, magnesium L-threonate, taurate and malate, or compare every form in our types of magnesium chart.
Is Cytoplan magnesium bisglycinate good for sleep?
Cytoplan markets its bisglycinate for relaxation and sleep. Under UK rules, magnesium has no authorised health claim for sleep. The authorised claims include that magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue, to normal psychological function and to normal muscle function. Glycine has been tested in a few small sleep trials, usually at 3g before bed, so the evidence is limited. Our magnesium for sleep guide covers the research, and the best time to take magnesium covers timing.
Where Evopure fits
Evopure isn’t connected with Cytoplan. If you’re comparing options, ours takes a different approach, not a like-for-like swap:
- Magnesium Glycinate Sleep Complex: a berry-flavoured drink powder with magnesium bisglycinate and citrate in a 4.75g scoop, plus glycine, L-theanine, chamomile, passionflower, hops and oat straw. Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to normal psychological function.
- Reishi Mushroom Adaptogenic Complex: a reishi hot chocolate with cacao and maca. It contains a little natural caffeine.
- Sleep CBD Oil: broad spectrum CBD with 0% THC, plus passion flower, for an evening routine.
The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication.
iAll three are vegan, made in the UK and for adults (18+) only. If you take any regular medicines, check with your GP or pharmacist first. To compare other options, see our UK magnesium supplement guide.
Who should check first
The NHS says taking more than 400mg of magnesium for a short time can cause diarrhoea, so add up every product you take. Ask your GP or pharmacist before taking magnesium if you have kidney disease or take antibiotics, alendronic acid, levothyroxine or other regular medicines. If a doctor has prescribed magnesium for a low blood level, don’t swap it for a supplement without asking: see magnesium glycerophosphate, the prescription form. More in magnesium side effects.
iCytoplan also sells products for children; ask a GP or pharmacist before giving any supplement to a child. We don’t recommend our products during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Our products are for adults (18+) only.
