Natural Vitality Calm is a US magnesium drink powder. The UK tub contains magnesium carbonate and citric acid, which become magnesium citrate when you add water. Natural Vitality’s UK site says each serving gives 350mg of magnesium (unflavoured) or 325mg (raspberry lemon). We checked in October 2026.

Facts below come from Natural Vitality’s UK and US websites and UK retailer listings, checked on 26 October 2026. This is not a review, and Evopure isn’t connected with Natural Vitality.

What’s in Natural Vitality Calm

Natural Vitality’s UK website listed seven Calm products on 26 October 2026: two powders in 200g and 400g tubs, two gummies and a capsule. Figures are magnesium itself (elemental magnesium), as the brand states them.

UK product Magnesium Daily serving Main ingredients
Calm Original Unflavoured 350mg 4g powder Magnesium carbonate, citric acid
Calm Raspberry Lemon 325mg 4g powder As above, plus natural flavourings and stevia
Calm Magnesium Gummies 180mg 2 gummies Magnesium citrate, glucose syrup, sugar
Calm Magnesium Glycinate 325mg 3 capsules Magnesium bisglycinate

The unflavoured label gives 350mg as 93% of the nutrient reference value (NRV), with about 100 servings in a 400g tub. The powder ingredient lists contain no sugar: the raspberry lemon flavour is sweetened with stevia. The adult gummies contain glucose syrup and sugar, set with pectin, and are labelled vegan. Retailer listings give the country of origin as the United States.

How magnesium carbonate becomes magnesium citrate

That’s why the powder fizzes. In the tub, it is magnesium carbonate plus citric acid. Add warm water and the two react, leaving magnesium citrate dissolved in the drink. Natural Vitality’s US site calls this “ionic magnesium citrate”.

The gummies skip the reaction and use magnesium citrate directly: 1,600mg of magnesium citrate gives 180mg of magnesium. The capsules use 2,666mg of magnesium glycinate for 325mg of magnesium. Always read the elemental figure, not the compound weight.

On absorption, the evidence is small. In a 60-day UK trial in 46 healthy adults, magnesium citrate raised blood magnesium more than an amino-acid chelate or magnesium oxide at 300mg a day. For each form, see magnesium citrate, magnesium glycinate and the types of magnesium.

How to take Natural Vitality Calm

The UK directions for adults:

  1. Put 4g (about one teaspoon) of powder in a mug.
  2. Add 100ml of warm water and let it fizz.
  3. Stir until dissolved, then top up with warm or cold water.
  4. Take once a day, preferably with a meal. Don’t exceed the stated dose.

The US directions differ: they suggest starting with about half a teaspoon and building up, and splitting the daily amount into two or three portions. Follow the label on the pack you buy. The capsules are three a day and the gummies two a day, preferably with a meal. For timing and formats, see the best time to take magnesium and magnesium powder vs tablets.

Is Natural Vitality Calm good for sleep?

Calm’s UK listings use authorised magnesium claims: magnesium contributes to normal psychological function and to the normal functioning of the nervous system. No sleep claim for magnesium is authorised in the UK.

The research is modest. A 2021 review of three trials in 151 older adults found people fell asleep about 17 minutes faster than with placebo, but rated the evidence low quality. A 2025 trial in 155 adults with poor sleep found a small improvement at four weeks, using magnesium bisglycinate rather than citrate. More in magnesium for sleep and does magnesium make you sleepy?

Natural Vitality’s US range includes Calm Sleep products with melatonin. Melatonin is prescription-only in the UK, and none were among the UK listings we saw. See melatonin in the UK.

Where Evopure fits

Evopure isn’t connected with Natural Vitality. If you like a warm evening drink, these are ours, and they’re different products, not like-for-like swaps:

  • Magnesium Glycinate Sleep Complex: a berry-flavoured drink powder with magnesium bisglycinate and citrate (148mg of magnesium per serving), glycine, L-theanine, chamomile, passionflower, hops and oat straw. Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
  • Reishi Mushroom Adaptogenic Complex: a reishi hot chocolate with organic cacao and maca. It contains a little natural caffeine.
  • Sleep CBD Oil: broad spectrum CBD with 0% THC, plus passion flower, for an evening routine. CBD isn’t a treatment for sleep problems.

The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication.

All three are vegan and made in the UK, for adults (18+) only. We don’t recommend our products during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Side effects and the laxative effect

The NHS says adults need 300mg (men) or 270mg (women) of magnesium a day. It says 400mg or less a day from supplements is unlikely to cause harm, and more than 400mg for a short time can cause diarrhoea. One serving of Calm is 350mg, so add up any other magnesium you take. The US label also warns it may cause gastrointestinal discomfort.

Calm isn’t sold as a laxative in the UK. For constipation, the NHS suggests diet, fluids and activity first, then asking a pharmacist about a suitable laxative. See magnesium for constipation and magnesium side effects.

The UK powders are for adults over 18. The labels ask you to consult a doctor first if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or have a medical condition; the US label names kidney disease. Natural Vitality sells separate Calm Kids gummies (90mg, for children aged 4+): ask a GP or pharmacist before giving children a supplement. See magnesium for kids and how much magnesium per day.

Buying Natural Vitality Calm in the UK

Natural Vitality runs a UK website (naturalvitality.co.uk). On 26 October 2026, Boots listed seven Calm products, all showing “stock coming soon” online, and Holland and Barrett listed seven. See our guides to Boots magnesium and Holland and Barrett magnesium, or BetterYou magnesium for another drink powder.

US and UK packs differ. In the US, the original powder is now sold as “MAXCALM”, with 350mg from about two teaspoons, and the newest US labels list citrate and glycinate. UK tubs list magnesium carbonate and citric acid. Comparing brands? See our UK magnesium supplement guide.

For a capsule range with a citrate powder, see Viridian magnesium.
