Nutravita’s UK magnesium range includes Pure Magnesium Glycinate (300mg of magnesium from three capsules), a 5-in-1 Complex (400mg from two), citrate capsules, citrate gummies and 500mg tablets. The big numbers on some labels are compound weights: 2,175mg of magnesium glycinate gives 300mg of actual magnesium.

Compound weight vs elemental magnesium
Magnesium can’t go in a capsule on its own. It is always bound to something, such as glycine or citric acid, and that partner adds weight. So a label can show two numbers: the weight of the compound, and the “elemental” magnesium inside it. Only the second counts towards the 300mg (men) or 270mg (women) the NHS says adults need. Nutravita’s labels show both:
- Pure Magnesium Glycinate: 2,175mg of magnesium glycinate gives 300mg of magnesium, about 14% by weight.
- 5-in-1 Complex: 1,146mg of compounds gives 400mg. Oxide is the largest part (535mg), then L-ascorbate (172mg), bisglycinate (155mg), malate (147mg) and citrate (137mg).
- Magnesium Complex (120): 1,545mg of citrate and 600mg of bisglycinate give 344mg, with 120mg of vitamin C and 2mg of vitamin B6.
- Citrate gummies: 2,136mg of magnesium citrate nonahydrate gives 200mg, with 24mg of vitamin C.
- 500mg tablets: here 500mg is the magnesium itself, from magnesium oxide.
So “1000mg magnesium glycinate” on any label is not 1,000mg of magnesium. On Nutravita’s own ratio, it would be roughly 140mg (our sum). The “440” product name is the magnesium figure; its page gives two citrate weights (945mg in the description, 1,480mg plus 567mg of oxide in the nutrition table), so check your pack.
Nutravita magnesium glycinate and bisglycinate
Glycinate and bisglycinate mean the same thing here: magnesium bound to glycine. Pure Magnesium Glycinate lists magnesium bisglycinate as its only magnesium source, in a plant-cellulose (HPMC) capsule. The Magnesium Glycinate 200mg capsules combine 90mg of magnesium from glycinate with 110mg from oxide. In a small 60-day UK trial of 46 adults, citrate and an amino-acid chelate were absorbed better than oxide.
Nutravita’s UK site didn’t list glycinate gummies when we checked. Its gummies are citrate with vitamin C, and sugar and glucose syrup are the first ingredients. Other brands label in different ways: Solgar states the magnesium, while Holland and Barrett and Myprotein name some products by compound weight.
Where Evopure fits

The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication.
All three are vegan and made in the UK, for adults (18+) only.
How much a day, and who should check first
The NHS says 400mg or less a day of magnesium from supplements is unlikely to cause harm, and that more than 400mg for a short time can cause diarrhoea. The 500mg tablets and 440mg citrate capsules are above that figure, so add up every product you take and ask a pharmacist if unsure. See magnesium side effects and the best time to take magnesium.
The calcium, magnesium and zinc tablets also give 800mg of calcium and 25µg (1,000 IU) of vitamin D3. The NHS says 10µg of vitamin D a day is enough for most people, and not to take more than 100µg. Read magnesium and calcium together.
Nutravita’s labels say its magnesium products aren’t suitable for under-18s, and to consult a GP if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding or taking prescription medication. Nutravita also sells vitamin D3 drops for children; ask a GP or pharmacist before giving any supplement to a child. We don’t recommend our products during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
