Solgar’s UK website sells six magnesium supplements. Chelated Magnesium is bisglycinate plus oxide, giving 400mg of magnesium from four tablets. Magnesium Citrate gives 400mg from two tablets, and Magnesium Glycinate gives 240mg from two capsules, all of it as bisglycinate. All three were labelled suitable for vegans when we checked in October 2026.
Facts below come from Solgar’s own UK website and labels, checked on 23 October 2026. Evopure isn’t connected with Solgar, and we don’t rate or review other brands.
Solgar’s UK magnesium range
| Product | Magnesium form | Magnesium a day | Daily dose |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chelated Magnesium | Bisglycinate, oxide | 400mg | 4 tablets |
| Magnesium Citrate | Citrate | 400mg | 2 tablets |
| Magnesium Glycinate | Bisglycinate | 240mg | 2 capsules |
| Magnesium with Vitamin B6 | Oxide | 400mg | 3 tablets |
| Calcium Magnesium Plus Zinc | Oxide, gluconate, citrate | 400mg | 3 tablets |
| Magnesium Threonate | L-threonate | 72mg | 2 capsules |
The tablet labels say to take them “preferably at mealtime”. Calcium Magnesium with Vitamin D3 didn’t come up in a search of Solgar’s UK site, so you may only see it on overseas listings. For each form in general, see the types of magnesium.

What “chelated” means on Solgar’s label
A chelate is a mineral bound to an amino acid. On Solgar Chelated Magnesium, the label reads “Magnesium (as bisglycinate, oxide)”, with the bisglycinate made by Albion Laboratories. So it is a mix: magnesium bound to glycine, plus magnesium oxide. The label doesn’t say how much comes from each.
Label maths is simple here. Solgar’s labels give the magnesium itself (elemental magnesium), not the weight of the compound: each Chelated Magnesium tablet gives 100mg, and four give 400mg, 107% of the nutrient reference value (NRV). Some brands name products by compound weight instead, as we found at Holland and Barrett.
Solgar chelated magnesium vs magnesium glycinate
Both contain bisglycinate. The differences:
- Magnesium Glycinate: bisglycinate is the only magnesium source, in a vegetable capsule. Two capsules give 240mg.
- Chelated Magnesium: bisglycinate plus oxide, in tablets. Four give 400mg.
- Magnesium Citrate: 400mg from two tablets.
On absorption, the evidence is small. In a 60-day UK trial in 46 healthy adults, citrate and an amino-acid chelate were absorbed better than oxide at 300mg a day, and citrate raised blood magnesium the most. Read more in our guides to magnesium glycinate and magnesium citrate.
Where Evopure fits
Evopure isn’t connected with Solgar. Our products are different, not like-for-like swaps:
- Magnesium Glycinate Sleep Complex: magnesium bisglycinate and citrate (148mg of magnesium per serving), glycine, L-theanine, chamomile, passionflower, hops and oat straw. Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to normal psychological function.
- Reishi Mushroom Adaptogenic Complex: a reishi hot chocolate with organic cacao and maca. It contains a little natural caffeine.
- Sleep CBD Oil: broad spectrum CBD with 0% THC, plus passion flower, for an evening routine. CBD isn’t a treatment for sleep problems.
The FSA’s 10mg a day figure is precautionary advice rather than a legal limit, set while longer-term safety research continues. At Evopure we think it is a very cautious figure, and many adults use more. If you go above it, increase slowly, and check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any medication.
All three are vegan and made in the UK, for adults (18+) only. We don’t recommend our products during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Solgar magnesium for sleep
No sleep claim for magnesium is authorised in the UK, and the research is modest. A 2021 review of three trials in 151 older adults found people fell asleep about 17 minutes faster than with placebo, but rated the evidence low quality. A 2025 trial in 155 adults with poor sleep, using 250mg of magnesium as bisglycinate, found a small improvement at four weeks. See magnesium for sleep and the best time to take magnesium.
Calcium Magnesium Plus Zinc, B6 and threonate
- Calcium Magnesium Plus Zinc: three tablets give 1,000mg of calcium, 400mg of magnesium and 15mg of zinc. See magnesium and calcium and magnesium vs zinc.
- Magnesium with Vitamin B6: three tablets give 400mg of magnesium (as oxide) and 25mg of vitamin B6. The NHS advises not taking more than 10mg of B6 a day from supplements unless a doctor advises it.
- Magnesium Threonate: two capsules give 72mg of magnesium as L-threonate, plus a plant extract blend. See magnesium L-threonate.
How much a day, and who should check first
The NHS says adults need 300mg (men) or 270mg (women) of magnesium a day, and that 400mg or less a day from supplements is unlikely to cause harm. More than 400mg for a short time can cause diarrhoea. Four Chelated Magnesium tablets plus three Calcium Magnesium Plus Zinc tablets would add 800mg, so add up every product you take.
Solgar’s labels ask you to consult a healthcare practitioner first if you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication or have a medical condition. The Magnesium Glycinate page says to take it two to three hours before or after antibiotics. See how much magnesium per day and magnesium side effects.
