Everything CBD

What is CBD Oil?

The cannabis plant and the hemp plant are made up of over 100 naturally occurring cannabinoids, the most well known and plentiful of which are THC and CBD. THC is the psychoactive substance known for making users of cannabis ‘high’.

However, CBD has no such effects and has been suggested to support a healthy balance and wellbeing.

While the cannabis plant is illegal due to its high THC content, the hemp plant contains minute traces of THC and is high in CBD, making it non-psychoactive.

CBD derived from the hemp plant is therefore legal in the UK, and is also growing in popularity as the extract or oil can be used to supplement the cannabinoids that our body produces naturally.

How does CBD Oil impact the body?

CBD oil interacts directly with our endocannabinoid system and supplements it, causing a variety of positive changes in the body, especially around immune response.

To get the best understanding of how CBD interacts with the human body, we recommend reading our latest blogs & insights

Will CBD get me high?

CBD will not get you high. THC, one of over 500 compounds found within the cannabis plant and responsible for the associated "high", is removed from CBD products.

Is CBD legal?

CBD is legal in the UK as long as it contains less than 0.2% of THC. This is also the case across the EU.

Along with quality assurance, this is why we provide lab reports with each product to show the active ingredients and relevant amounts.

Many countries outside of the EU take a similar stance but the THC limit may vary, and some countries haven’t updated their cannabinoid laws to reflect CBD at all, meaning it remains illegal. If you live outside of the UK and are unsure if you are allowed to use or purchase CBD, take a look at our guide to CBD Legality by Country and State.

Is CBD addictive?

In short, no. CBD has not proven to be addictive.

Will CBD show up in a drug test?

In the vast majority of cases CBD will not show up on a drugs test, as most drug tests will test for THC, which is known to get you ‘high’. CBD is rarely checked for since it has no psychoactive effects.

Evopure's CBD is all broad spectrum, meaning that it has the THC removed in the extraction process.

However, we do recommend that you disclose your usage of CBD if faced with a drugs test, in the off chance that a minute quantity of THC is detected.

Using CBD

How much CBD should I use?

CBD dosage is different for everyone, and the exact dose you should take may depend on gender, weight, age & if you have previous experience with CBD.

We recommend that anyone new to CBD should start on a lower strength product, taking a small dose (less than one pipette) from our Essential Starter Oil or Lower Strength Capsules. Increase your CBD intake/dose gradually per day until you reach desired effects.

Can CBD be taken with medication?

CBD can increase the effect of blood thinning medications such as Warfarin by lowering blood pressure and therefore causing the body to take longer metabolising these drugs.

CBD can also increase the effect of sedatives.

Last but not least, you may have heard that many drugs can’t be taken alongside eating grapefruit. This is because grapefruit inhibits the metabolic process which changes the effects of these drugs and can cause side effects such as dizziness, difficulty breathing, drowsiness and more.

CBD can inhibit drug metabolization in the same way, and therefore should not be taken alongside any medication that has a warning about taking grapefruit on the label.

To be safe, always check with your GP about any potential conflict with your current prescription medication.

Can you overdose on CBD?

An overdose on CBD oil is highly unlikely, and would at worst lead to side effects of nausea and drowsiness. We recommend if you are new to CBD starting low (the 10-15mg level) and gradually building up from there.

According to the FSA, it's best to cap your daily dosage to 70mg of CBD per day which is more than enough.

How do I take CBD?

From taking CBD oil directly under the tongue to vaping CBD oil and eating CBD edibles, there is a rapidly growing array of methods to take CBD.

The most common and the best method for bioavailability reasons is simply to take CBD drops under the tongue.

If you would like to learn more about the different methods of taking CBD oil along with their pros and cons, please check out our detailed guide on How to Take CBD Oil: Doses, Methods, Side Effects & More.

You should not take any CBD oil that has changed in texture, colour, cloudiness or consistency, although this is more likely to result in diminished benefits than any health problems.

How long does it take for CBD to work?

When taking CBD oil sublingually, it can take anywhere from ten minutes to an hour before feeling the effect. To fully realise its benefits, it’s important to treat CBD oil like any other dietary supplement and take it consistently for at least ten days for maximum results.
