Nothing beats a perfectly brewed cuppa — except maybe one infused with CBD. This guide covers what CBD tea is, how it compares to hemp tea, its benefits, how to make it properly and two simple recipes to try at home.
Evopure CBD — perfect for adding to tea
What is CBD tea?
CBD tea means either a tea made from dried hemp leaves or flowers, or a regular herbal/black/green tea with CBD oil drops added. A genuine CBD tea should contain measurable cannabidiol — ask for a Certificate of Analysis (COA) to confirm potency and legal THC levels before buying.

CBD tea vs hemp tea
Hemp tea may be caffeine-free and soothing, but it doesn’t always contain cannabinoids at meaningful levels. True CBD tea should have a stated CBD content in mg — confirmed by a COA. If in doubt, look for the milligram figure on the label rather than just “hemp extract.”

What does CBD tea do?
Tea itself is a calming ritual. Adding CBD may support a sense of calm and ECS balance — without any psychoactive effect (CBD is non-intoxicating and legal products contain only trace THC). Note that drinking CBD in liquid has lower bioavailability than taking drops sublingually under the tongue — including a fat source (milk, butter, MCT) significantly improves absorption.
Types of CBD tea
- Ready-made CBD tea bags — herbal blends infused with CBD in various flavours and strengths
- DIY: CBD oil added to tea — brew your favourite tea, then stir in CBD drops with a fat source
- Hemp flower steeped — CBD flower is illegal in the UK; avoid this method
Benefits of CBD tea
- Stress and anxiety support — a relaxing ritual; CBD may support calmer baseline via ECS
- Sleep — a bedtime CBD tea with chamomile or lavender can complement your wind-down routine; our Sleep CBD Oil is ideal for this
- Digestion — pair with ginger, mint or chamomile for after-meal comfort
- General wellness — an easy way to incorporate CBD into a daily ritual
How much CBD tea should I drink?
Start low — add one drop of CBD oil to your first cup and assess how you feel. Increase gradually over days until you find your ideal amount. UK FSA guidance: healthy adults should not exceed 70 mg/day from supplements. Always include a fat source (milk, MCT, a small knob of butter) to improve absorption.

Steep time doesn’t change CBD content. The key is always to include a fat source — CBD is lipid-soluble and absorbs significantly better when paired with dairy milk, plant milk, MCT oil or a small amount of butter.
CBD tea recipes
1. Quick and easy CBD tea
Ingredients: Your favourite tea (bag or loose leaf), CBD oil drops, hot water, milk or a knob of butter.
Method: Brew tea as usual. Stir in milk or a small amount of butter. Add 1 drop (or more as needed) of CBD oil and stir well. Enjoy.
2. Indulgent CBD chai or matcha latte
Ingredients: ½ cup CBD coconut oil or ¼ cup CBD butter, 2 cups milk (dairy, hemp, coconut or MCT creamer), 1 tsp vanilla extract, 1 cup hot water, loose-leaf chai or matcha, honey and cinnamon to taste.
Method: Combine CBD butter/oil with milk and vanilla; allow to reach room temperature. Brew tea in hot water. Pour tea and CBD milk into a saucepan, cover and simmer gently for 20 minutes — do not boil. Sweeten to taste. Serve warm. The fat content delivers better bioavailability and a longer-lasting, sustained effect.
Frequently asked questions
Will CBD tea get me high?
No. Legal CBD teas and oils contain only trace THC and are non-psychoactive.
Is CBD tea as effective as sublingual drops?
Less bioavailable than holding drops under the tongue — but adding a fat source (milk, MCT, butter) to your CBD tea significantly improves absorption.
Can I drink CBD tea at night?
Yes — choose caffeine-free herbs (chamomile, lavender) and consider our Sleep CBD Oil for an evening wind-down cup.
How do I check a CBD tea’s quality?
Request the product’s COA confirming CBD mg content, THC compliance and contaminant testing results.
